REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



E15ET Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable. Disconnect the air inlet and the outlet pipes from the turbocharger.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the oil pressure tube and the oil return hose from the turbocharger. Disconnect and mark the high tension wires from the spark plugs.
  4.  
  5. Remove the catalytic converter heat shield, then the converter's mounting bracket.
  6.  

Soak the exhaust pipe outlet bolts with penetrating oil if necessary to loosen them.

  1. Remove the exhaust outlet-to-turbocharger mounting nuts and separate the outlet from the turbocharger.
  2.  
  3. Remove the turbocharger-to-exhaust manifold mounting nuts and lift the turbocharger from the exhaust manifold.
  4.  
  5. Using a putty knife, clean the gasket mounting surfaces.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Use new gaskets, install the turbocharger to the exhaust manifold. Observe the following torques:

    Exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head bolts-12-15 ft. lbs. (15-18 Nm)
     
    Turbocharger-to-exhaust manifold nuts-22-25 ft. lbs. (28-34 Nm)
     
    Exhaust outlet-to-turbo nuts-22-25 ft. lbs. (28-34 Nm)
     
    Converter mounting bracket 10mm bolt-14-18 ft. lbs. (16-20 Nm); 8mm bolt-78-120 inch lbs. (10-14 Nm)
     
    Oil pressure tube fitting-to-turbo-14-22 ft. lbs. (17-30 Nm).
     

  2.  
  3. Install the remaining components. Connect the negative (-) battery cable and check operation.
