Never smoke when working around gasoline! Avoid all sources of sparks or ignition. Gasoline vapors are EXTREMELY volatile! Any time the fuel system is being worked on, disconnect the negative battery cable, except for those tests where battery voltage is required and always keep a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher near the work area.

  1. Remove the fuel pump fuse from the fuse block or disconnect the fuel pump relay, while engine is running.
  3. Crank the engine. It should run and then stall when the fuel in the lines is exhausted. When the engine stops, crank the starter for about 3 seconds to make sure all pressure in the fuel lines is released.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  7. Install the fuel pump fuse, relay or harness connector after repair is made.

On all fuel injected Pulsar and Sentra models, if the fuse box is equipped with a fuse for fuel pump, this fuse can be removed instead of detaching the electrical connector from the fuel pump or relay.
