REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1987-90 Vehicles
EXCEPT 4WD SENTRA
  1. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the brake tube and parking brake cable.
  6.  
  7. If necessary, remove the brake assembly and wheel bearing.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the parallel links and radius rod from the strut or knuckle.
  10.  
  11. Support the strut with a jackstand.
  12.  
  13. Remove the strut upper end nuts and then remove the strut from the vehicle.
  14.  

To install:
  1. Install the strut assembly to the vehicle and tighten the strut-to-parallel link nuts to 65-87 ft. lbs. (88-118 Nm), the strut-to-radius rod nuts to 54-69 ft. lbs. (64-94 Nm) and the strut-to-body nuts to 23-31 ft. lbs. (31-42 Nm). Torque the radius rod-to-knuckle nuts to 43-61 ft. lbs. (58-83 Nm), the strut-to-knuckle and parallel link-to-knuckle bolts to 72-87 ft. lbs. (98-118 Nm) and the strut-to-body nuts to 18-22 ft. lbs. (25-30 Nm).

  3. Reconnect the brake tube and parking brake cable.
  4.  
  5. Install the wheel.
  6.  

4WD SENTRA
  1. Block the front wheels.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle with jackstands.
  4.  
  5. Position a floor jack under the transverse link on the side of the strut to be removed. Raise it just enough to support the strut.
  6.  
  7. Open the rear of the car and remove the 3 nuts that attach the top of the strut to the body.
  8.  
  9. Remove the wheel.
  10.  
  11. Remove the brake line from its bracket and position it out of the way.
  12.  
  13. Remove the 2 lower strut-to-knuckle mounting bolts.
  14.  
  15. Carefully lower the floor jack and remove the strut.
  16.  

To install:
  1. Install the strut assembly in the vehicle. Final tightening of the strut mounting bolts should take place with the wheels on the ground and the vehicle unladen. Tighten the upper strut-to-body nuts to 33-40 ft. lbs. (45-60 Nm). Tighten the lower strut-to-knuckle bolts to 111-120 ft. lbs. (151-163 Nm).

  3. Connect the brake line.
  4.  
  5. Install the wheel.
  6.  

1991-96 Sentra

  1. Raise the vehicle and support it safely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel and brake caliper.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the parallel link, radius rod and stabilizer hardware.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rear seat and trim panel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the upper strut-to-body nuts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the lower strut-to-knuckle bolts and remove the strut from the vehicle.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Tighten all suspension bolts when the vehicle's weight is resting on the suspension.
  2.  
  3. Install the strut and tighten the upper nuts to 18-22 ft. lbs. (25-29 Nm), lower strut bolts to 72-98 ft. lbs. (98-133 Nm) and parallel link bolts to 72-98 ft. lbs. (98-133 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the rear seat and trim panel.
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle and have the rear end aligned.
  8.
