Neutral Safety Switch/Inhibitor Switch

The inhibitor switch allows the back-up lights to work when the transaxle is placed in Reverse range and acts as a Neutral switch, by allowing the current to pass to the starter when the transaxle is placed in Neutral or Park.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Raise and support the vehicle on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Remove the transaxle control cable connection.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect electrical harness, remove switch retaining screws. Remove the switch from the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Adjust the inhibitor switch--refer to the service procedure.

ADJUSTMENT



See Figure 1

  1. Raise and support the vehicle on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the inhibitor switch adjusting screws. Place the select lever in the Neutral position.

  1. Using a 2.5mm diameter pin (RL3F01A type transaxle--early model Stanza) or a 4mm diameter pin (RL4F02A type transaxle--late model Stanza) place the pin into the adjustment holes on both the inhibitor switch and the switch lever (the switch lever should be as near vertical position as possible).

  3. Tighten the adjusting screws EVENLY to 1.4-1.9 ft. lbs. Check the switch for continuity by making sure the vehicle starts only in P or N.
