Pedal Height And Free Play
See Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4
On all vehicles and clutch type operating systems, refer to the "Clutch Specifications Chart" for clutch pedal height above floor and pedal free play.
On all models with a hydraulically operated clutch system--pedal height is usually adjusted with a stopper limiting the upward travel of the pedal. Pedal free-play is adjusted at the master cylinder pushrod. If the pushrod is non-adjustable, free-play is adjusted by placing shims between the master cylinder and the firewall.
On all models with a mechanical clutch system follow the service procedure below:
- Loosen the lock-nut and adjust the pedal height by means of the pedal stopper. Tighten the lock-nut.
- Push the withdrawal lever (refer to the illustration of "B" area) in by hand until resistance is felt. Adjust withdrawal lever play at the lever tip end with the lock-nuts. Withdrawal lever play should be 0.08-0.12 inch (23mm).
- Depress and release the clutch pedal several times and then recheck the withdrawal lever play again. Readjust if necessary.
- Measure the pedal free travel at the center of the pedal pad.
