Before attempting to remove the oil pump, you must perform the following procedures: Drain the oil from the oil pan. Turn the crankshaft so that No. 1 piston is at TDC on its compression stroke. Remove the distributor cap and mark the position of the distributor rotor in relation to the distributor base with a piece of chalk.

  1. Remove the front stabilizer bar, if so equipped.
  2.  
  3. Remove the splash shield.
  4.  
  5. Remove the oil pump body with the drive spindle assembly.
  6.  

To install:
  1. Fill the pump housing with engine oil, align the punch mark on the spindle with the hole in the pump. No. 1 piston should be at TDC on its compression stroke.
  2.  
  3. With a new gasket placed over the drive spindle, install the oil pump and drive spindle assembly. Make sure the tip of the drive spindle fits into the distributor shaft notch securely. The distributor rotor should be pointing to the matchmark you made earlier.
  4.  

Great care must be taken not to disturb the distributor rotor while installing the oil pump, or the ignition timing will be wrong.

  1. Install the splash shield and front stabilizer bar if it was removed.
  2.  
  3. Install the distributor cap.
  4.  
  5. Refill the engine oil. Start the engine, check ignition timing and check for oil leaks.
  6.  

All Models (CA Series Engines)

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the oil pan.
  4.  
  5. Remove all accessory drive belts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the alternator.
  8.  
  9. Remove the timing belt covers.
  10.  
  11. Remove the timing belt.
  12.  
  13. On 200SX and the Stanza Wagon, unbolt the engine from its mounts and lift or jack the engine up from the body. On the Stanza (except Wagon) remove the center member from the body.
  14.  
  15. Remove the oil pan.
  16.  
  17. Remove the oil pump assembly along with the oil strainer. Remove the O-ring from the oil pump body and replace it.
  18.  
  19. Replace the front seal.
  20.  

To install:
  1. If installing a new or rebuilt oil pump, first pack the pump full of petroleum jelly to prevent the pump from cavitating when the engine is started. Apply RTV sealer to the front oil seal end of the pan prior to installation.
  2.  
  3. Install the pump and torque the oil pump mounting bolts to 812 ft. lbs. Make sure the oil pump body O-ring is properly seated.
  4.  
  5. Install the oil pan.
  6.  
  7. On the Stanza (except Wagon), install the center member. On 200SX and the Stanza Wagon, lower and re-mount the engine.
  8.  
  9. Install the timing belt.
  10.  
  11. Install the timing belt covers.
  12.  
  13. Install the alternator.
  14.  
  15. Install and tension the drive belts.
  16.  
  17. Fill the crankcase to the proper level.
  18.  
  19. Connect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  20.  

1990-92 Stanza (KA24E Engine)

The oil pump assembly consists of an inner and outer gear located in the front cover. Removal of the front cover is necessary to gain access to the oil pump.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front cover with the strainer tube.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the oil pump cover retaining screw and mounting bolts and separate the oil pump cover from the front cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pump inner and outer gears.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Thoroughly clean the oil pump cover mating surfaces and the gear cavity.
  2.  
  3. Install the outer gear into the cavity.
  4.  
  5. Install the inner gear so the grooved side is facing up (towards the oil pump cover). Make sure the gears mesh properly and pack the pump cavity with petroleum jelly.
  6.  
  7. Install the oil pump cover. On KA24E engine, torque the cover screws to 2.23.6 ft. lbs. and the bolts to 1215 ft. lbs.
  8.  
  9. Install the front cover with a new seal.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  12.  

240SX (KA24DE Engine)
  1. Remove the drive belts.
  2.  
  3. Remove the cylinder head and oil pans.
  4.  
  5. Remove the oil strainer and baffle plate.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front cover assembly (oil pump assembly is mounted in the front cover). Remove the oil pump.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Clean the mating surfaces of liquid gasket and apply a fresh bead of 1 / 8 in. (3mm) thickness.
  2.  
  3. Coat the oil pump gears with oil. Using a new oil seal and O-ring, install the front cover assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install the oil strainer, baffle plate, oil pans, cylinder head and drive belts.
  6.  

240SX (KA24E Engine)

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the oil pan.
  4.  
  5. Turn the crankshaft so No. 1 piston is at TDC on its compression stroke.

  7. Remove the distributor cap and mark the position of the distributor rotor in relation to the distributor base with a piece of chalk.
  8.  
  9. Remove the splash shield.
  10.  
  11. Remove the oil pump body with the drive spindle assembly.
  12.  

To install:
  1. To install, fill the pump housing with engine oil, align the punch mark on the spindle with the hole in the pump. No. 1 piston should be at TDC on its compression stroke.
  2.  
  3. With a new gasket and seal placed over the drive spindle, install the oil pump and drive spindle assembly. Make sure the tip of the drive spindle fits into the distributor shaft notch securely. The distributor rotor should be pointing to the matchmark made earlier.
  4.  
  5. Install the splash shield.
  6.  
  7. Install the distributor cap.
  8.  
  9. Fill the crankcase to the proper level.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and check for leaks. Check the ignition timing.
  12.  

200SX (VG30 Engine)

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the oil pan.
  4.  
  5. Remove the timing belt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the crankshaft timing sprocket using a suitable puller.
  8.  
  9. Remove the timing belt plate.
  10.  
  11. Remove the oil pump strainer and pick-up tube from the oil pump.
  12.  
  13. Remove the mounting bolts and remove the oil pump and gasket.
  14.  
  15. Replace the oil pump seal.
  16.  

To install:
  1. Before installing the oil pump, remove the front cover and pack the pump's cavity with petroleum jelly, then make sure the O-ring is fitted properly. Torque the front cover screws to 34 ft. lbs.
  2.  
  3. Mount the oil pump with a new gasket. Torque the 8mm retaining bolts to 1622 ft. lbs. and the 6mm bolts to 56 ft. lbs.
  4.  
  5. Install the oil pump strainer and pick-up tube with a new O-ring. Torque the pick-up tube mounting bolts to 1215 ft. lbs.
  6.  
  7. Install the timing belt plate.
  8.  
  9. Install the crankshaft timing sprocket.
  10.  
  11. Install the timing belt.
  12.  
  13. Install the oil pan.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and check for leaks.
