When adding or changing the power steering fluid, use Dexron® ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid).
See Figures 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5
The power steering hydraulic fluid level is checked with a dipstick inserted into the pump reservoir. The level can be checked (check fluid level periodically) with the fluid either warm or cold. The car should be parked on a level surface. Check the fluid level every 12 months or 15,000 miles, whichever comes first.
- With the engine OFF, unscrew the dipstick and check the level. If the engine is warm, the level should be within the proper range on the HOT scale. If the engine is cold, the level should be within the proper range on the COLD scale (see illustrations).
- If the level is low, add DEXRON® ATF until correct. Be careful not to overfill, which will cause fluid loss and seal damage.
