REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



200SX and 240SX Models-Rear Wheel Drive

CAUTION
Brake shoes contain asbestos, which has been determined to be a cancer causing agent. Never clean the brake surfaces with compressed air! Avoid inhaling any dust from any brake surface! When cleaning brake surfaces, use a commercially available brake cleaning fluid.

  1. Raise and support the front of the vehicle safely and remove the wheels.
  2.  
  3. Remove brake caliper assembly and wheel hub and bearing assembly if necessary. Refer to the necessary procedures in Suspension & Steering . Make sure not to twist the brake hose.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake disc/wheel hub from the vehicle.
  6.  

4.Installation is the reverse of removal. Adjust the wheel bearings if necessary.

INSPECTION



Check the brake rotor for roughness, cracks or chips. The rotor can be machined on a brake lathe most auto parts stores have complete machine shop service. The rotors should be machined or replaced during every front disc brake pad replacement.

EARLY TYPE ROTOR/DISC ASSEMBLY
  1. Refer to the Caliper, Removal and Installation procedures, in this section and remove the caliper and the cylinder body and the torque member from the steering knuckle. Do not disconnect the brake tube (if possible), support the assembly on a wire.
  2.  
  3. Remove the grease cap, the cotter pin, the adjusting cap, the wheel bearing lock-nut and the thrust washer from the drive shaft.
  4.  
  5. Using Wheel Hub Remover tools KV40101000 and ST36230000 press the wheel hub/disc assembly from the steering knuckle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the disc-to-wheel hub bolts and separate the disc from the wheel hub.
  8.  
  9. Install wheel hub/disc assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Suspension & Steering for the necessary torque specifications and service procedures.
  10.  
  11. Install the caliper assembly and any other components to the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Bleed brake system if necessary.
  14.  

LATER TYPE ROTOR/DISC ASSEMBLY
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the caliper assembly as outlined.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rotor/disc assembly from the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal procedure.
  8.
