REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

- Disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the intake duct from the throttle chamber.
- Disconnect and mark the vacuum hoses and the electrical harness connector from the throttle chamber. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle chamber.
- Remove the mounting bolts and the throttle chamber from the intake manifold (early years) or intake manifold collector assembly.
- To install, use a new gasket and reverse the removal procedures. Torque the throttle chamber bolts to 13-16 ft. lbs. in two steps EVENLY. Refer to Throttle Chamber tightening procedure illustration. Adjust the throttle cable if necessary.
Check the throttle for smooth operation and make sure the by-pass port is free from obstacles and is clean. Check to make sure the idle speed adjusting screw moves smoothly. Do not touch the EGR vacuum port screw or, on some later models, the throttle valve stopper screw, as they are factory adjusted.
Because of the sensitivity of the air flow meter, there cannot be any air leaks in the fuel system. Even the smallest leak could unbalance the system and affect the performance of the automobile.
During every check pay attention to VACUUM HOSE connections, dipstick and oil filler cap for evidence of air leaks. Should you encounter any, take steps to correct the problem.
