REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Remove the hoses at the pump and plug the openings shut to prevent contamination. Position the disconnected lines in a raised attitude to prevent leakage.
  2.  
  3. Remove the pump belt.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the retaining bolts and any braces, and remove the pump.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal procedure. Use the following torque specifications as a guide pulley lock-nut 23-31 ft. lbs. and pump bracket to engine 20-26 ft. lbs. Adjust the belt-refer to General Information & Maintenance . Bleed the system.

BLEEDING THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM



  1. Fill the pump reservoir and allow to remain undisturbed for a few minutes.
  2.  
  3. Raise the car until the front wheels are clear of the ground.
  4.  
  5. With the engine off, quickly turn the wheels right and left several times, lightly contacting the stops.
  6.  
  7. Add fluid if necessary.
  8.  
  9. Start the engine and let it idle.
  10.  
  11. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 with the engine idling.
  12.  
  13. Stop the engine, lower the car until the wheels just touch the ground. Start the engine, allow it to idle, and turn the wheels back and forth several times. Check the fluid level and refill if necessary.
