2-Wheel Drive
  1. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Engine cover
     
    Transmission fluid indicator gauge
     
    Engine splash guard
     
    Exhaust front pipe
     
    Center muffler
     
    Rear drive shaft
     
    Transmission control cable
     
    Crankshaft position sensor
     
    Fluid cooler tube
     
    Dust cover from converter housing
     

  2.  
  3. Turning crankshaft clockwise, remove the four tightening bolts for drive plate and torque converter
  4.  
  5. Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Transmission cross member
     
    Air breather hose
     
    Transmission assembly connector
     
    Fluid indicator tube from transmission assembly
     
    Transmission assembly to engine bolts
     
    Transmission assembly from vehicle

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Transmission assembly into vehicle
     
    Transmission assembly to engine bolts tightening to 83 ft. lbs. (113 Nm)
     
    Fluid indicator tube to transmission assembly
     
    Transmission assembly connector
     
    Air breather hose
     
    Transmission cross member
     

  2.  
  3. Turning crankshaft clockwise, install the torque converter to drive plate.
  4.  


NOTE
After torque converter is installed, rotate the crankshaft to ensure transmission rotates freely.

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Dust cover for converter housing
     
    Fluid cooler tube
     
    Crankshaft position sensor
     
    Transmission control cable
     
    Rear drive shaft
     
    Center muffler
     
    Exhaust front pipe
     
    Engine splash guard
     
    Transmission fluid indicator gauge
     
    Engine cover
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Start engine and check for leaks.
  4.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Engine cover
     
    Transmission fluid indicator gauge
     
    Engine splash guard
     
    Exhaust front pipe
     
    Center muffler
     
    Rear drive shaft
     
    Transmission control cable
     
    Crankshaft position sensor
     
    Fluid cooler tube
     
    Dust cover from converter housing
     

  4.  
  5. Turning crankshaft clockwise, remove the four tightening bolts for drive plate and torque converter
  6.  
  7. Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Transmission cross member
     
    Air breather hose
     
    Transmission assembly connector
     
    Fluid indicator tube from transmission assembly
     
    Transmission assembly to engine bolts
     
    Transmission assembly from vehicle

  10.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Transmission assembly into vehicle
     
    Transmission assembly to engine bolts tightening to 83 ft. lbs. (113 Nm)
     
    Fluid indicator tube to transmission assembly
     
    Transmission assembly connector
     
    Air breather hose
     
    Transmission cross member
     

  2.  
  3. Turning crankshaft clockwise, install the torque converter to drive plate.
    NOTE
    After torque converter is installed, rotate the crankshaft to ensure transmission rotates freely.

  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following:

    Dust cover for converter housing
     
    Fluid cooler tube
     
    Crankshaft position sensor
     
    Transmission control cable
     
    Rear drive shaft
     
    Center muffler
     
    Exhaust front pipe
     
    Engine splash guard
     
    Transmission fluid indicator gauge
     
    Engine cover
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  6.  
  7. Start engine and check for leaks.
  8.

4-Wheel Drive
  1. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Engine cover
     
    Transmission fluid indicator gauge
     
    Engine splash guard
     
    Exhaust front pipe
     
    Center muffler
     
    Drive shaft
     
    Transmission control cable
     
    Crankshaft position sensor
     
    Fluid cooler tube
     
    Dust housing for torque converter
     

  2.  
  3. Turning the crankshaft clockwise, remove the four tightening bolts for drive plate and torque converter.
  4.  
  5. Support the transmission assembly with a suitable jack.
  6.  
  7. Remove transmission cross member.
  8.  
  9. Tilt the transmission slightly to keep clearance between the body and the transmission assembly, then disconnect the air breather hose.
  10.  
  11. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Transmission assembly connector and transfer case connector
     
    Fluid indicator pipe
     
    Transmission assembly to engine bolts
     
    Transmission assembly, with transfer case attached, from vehicle
     
    Transmission assembly from transfer case

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Transfer case to transmission assembly
     
    Transmission assembly into vehicle
     
    Transmission assembly to engine bolts tightening to 83 ft. lbs. (113 Nm)
     

  2.  
  3. With the transmission slightly tilted to allow clearance between body and transmission, connect the air breather hose.
  4.  
  5. Install the transmission cross member.
  6.  
  7. Turning crankshaft clockwise, install the torque converter to drive plate.
  8.  


NOTE
After torque converter is installed, rotate the crankshaft to ensure transmission rotates freely.

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Dust housing for torque converter
     
    Fluid cooler tube
     
    Crankshaft position sensor
     
    Transmission control cable
     
    Drive shaft
     
    Center muffler
     
    Front exhaust pipe
     
    Engine splash guard
     
    Transmission fluid indicator gauge
     
    Engine cover
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Start engine and check for leaks.
  4.

  7. Support the transmission assembly with a suitable jack.
  8.  
  9. Remove transmission cross member.
  10.  
  11. Tilt the transmission slightly to keep clearance between the body and the transmission assembly, then disconnect the air breather hose.
  12.  
  13. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Transmission assembly connector and transfer case connector
     
    Fluid indicator pipe
     
    Transmission assembly to engine bolts
     
    Transmission assembly, with transfer case attached, from vehicle
     
    Transmission assembly from transfer case

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Transfer case to transmission assembly
     
    Transmission assembly into vehicle
     
    Transmission assembly to engine bolts tightening to 83 ft. lbs. (113 Nm)
     

  2.  
  3. With the transmission slightly tilted to allow clearance between body and transmission, connect the air breather hose.
  4.  
  5. Install the transmission cross member.
  6.  
  7. Turning crankshaft clockwise, install the torque converter to drive plate.
    NOTE

  9. Install or connect the following:

    Dust housing for torque converter
     
    Fluid cooler tube
     
    Crankshaft position sensor

    Engine splash guard
     
    Transmission fluid indicator gauge
     
    Engine cover
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  10.  
  11. Start engine and check for leaks.
