Pinion Seal

Removal & Installation



  1. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front drive shaft
     
    Halfshafts
     

  2.  
  3. Measure and record the pinion bearing preload using special tool J-25765-A.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the pinion nut while holding the companion flange using special tool J-44195.
  6.  
  7. Remove the companion flange using a suitable tool.
  8.  
  9. Using a punch or drill, place a small hole in the case.
  10.  
  11. Remove the seal using special tool SP8P.
  12.

To install:

  1. Press front seal into carrier using a suitable tool.
  2.  
  3. Install companion flange and new pinion nut. Tighten pinion nut until there is no end play and until recorded pinion bearing preload is met plus an additional 5 inch lbs. (0.5 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following:

    Halfshafts
     
    Front drive shaft
     

  6.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front drive shaft
     
    Halfshafts
     

  4.  
  5. Measure and record the pinion bearing preload using special tool J-25765-A.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the pinion nut while holding the companion flange using special tool J-44195.
  8.  
  9. Remove the companion flange using a suitable tool.
  10.  
  11. Using a punch or drill, place a small hole in the case.
  12.  
  13. Remove the seal using special tool SP8P.

To install:

  1. Press front seal into carrier using a suitable tool.
  2.  
  3. Install companion flange and new pinion nut. Tighten pinion nut until there is no end play and until recorded pinion bearing preload is met plus an additional 5 inch lbs. (0.5 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following:

    Halfshafts
     
    Front drive shaft
