Shock Absorbers

Removal & Installation



  1. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel
     
    Lower shock absorber bolt
     
    Upper shock absorber bolts
     
    Coil spring and shock absorber assembly
     

  2.  
  3. Secure the shock absorber in a vice and loosen (without removing) the piston rod lock nut.
  4.  
  5. Install a spring compressor and tighten until the shock absorber mounting insulator can be turned by hand.
  6.  
  7. Remove piston rod lock nut and remove shock absorber.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install upper mounting insulator in line with the lower shock absorber mount and step in shock absorber lower seat as shown in figure.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the new piston rod lock nut to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following:

    Coil spring and shock absorber assembly
     
    Upper shock absorber bolts and tighten to 22 ft. lbs (30 Nm)
     
    Lower shock absorber bolt and tighten to 99 ft. lbs. (134 Nm)
     
    Wheel
     

  6.  
  7. Check wheel alignment and adjust as necessary.
  8.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel

    Upper shock absorber bolts
     
    Coil spring and shock absorber assembly

To install:
