REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1970-77 Models

See Figure 1

This assembly is unrepairable and must be replaced as a unit, if problems occur. Replacement is made by disconnecting the brake lines (use a flare nut wrench, to avoid damage to the lines) and removing the part. Install the lines onto the new switch and bleed the system.

Fig. Fig. 1: Cross-sectional view of brake warning light-1970-77 models

1978-83 Models

The warning light switch(es) are installed in the master cylinder reservoir cap(s) in these models. The switch(s) can be tested by removing the cap(s) in turn and holding it above the reservoir, allowing the switch float to drop to the bottom of its travel. With the ignition switch ON and the parking brake released, the warning light should glow. If the switch(es) do not operate properly, they must be replaced. They are available only as complete units.

1984-88 Models

The warning switch is located at the bottom of the master cylinder reservoir. With the brake fluid removed from the reservoir, allow the float to settle to the bottom of the reservoir. With the ignition switch turned ON and the parking brake released, the warning light should glow. If the switch does not operate correctly, replace the reservoir tank.
