REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Some 1984 and later models are equipped with power door locks; removal and installation procedures are performed in the same manner as the manual systems. When removing the power lock motor, be sure to disconnect the electrical connector.

  1. Refer to the Door Glass and Regulator removal and installation procedures in this section, and remove the door glass.
  2.
  3. Remove the door inside handle retaining screws, disengage the control rods from the bell crank and door lock, then remove the inside handle assembly.
  4.

On the 2 + 2 seater models, remove the rear remote control bracket retaining bolts and the rear inside handle.

  1. Loosen the bell crank assembly screws. Disconnect the key rod from the door lock and remove the door lock assembly with the bell crank.
  2.
  3. Remove the door outside assembly.
  4.

Be sure to grease the sliding surfaces of the levers and the springs.

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedures. Adjust the lock assembly.

ADJUSTMENT

See Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4

On some models, it may be necessary to remove the door glass and regulator assembly to perform the adjustment procedure.

  1. Refer to the Door Panel removal and installation procedures in this section, and remove the door panel.
  2.
  3. Loosen the inside door handle assembly retaining screws and place it in the closed position.
  4.
  5. Adjust the inside door handle so that the lock inside lever can touch the lock base plate, then secure the inside handle.
  6.
  7. Place the lock knob in the locked position, then loosen and adjust the bell crank so that the lock knob play is minimal. Tighten the bell crank screws.
  8.
  9. At the outside handle control rod, turn the nylon adjusting nut to obtain a clearance of 0-0.39 in. (0-1.0mm) for 1970-78 models, 0-0.02 in. (0-0.5mm) for 1979-83 models, or 0.02-0.59 in. (0.5-1.5mm) for 1984-88 models, between the adjusting nut and the control lever.
  10.
  11. With the adjustment complete, reverse the removal procedures.
