REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1970-78 Models
WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING

See Figures 1 and 2

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the clamp at the air intake duct so as to disconnect the air intake box control cable.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the blower and the resistor wires at the connectors.
  6.  
  7. Remove the retaining screws and the blower unit.
  8.

  1. The motor and fan may be separated from the blower unit by removing the mounting screws. Be careful to retain the washers and spacers.
  2.  
  3. To install, reverse the removal procedures.
  4.  

When reassembling the control cable for the air intake door, set the AIR lever in the OFF position and position the wire in the clamp so that the door will just be closed.

WITH AIR CONDITIONING

See Figure 3

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Disconnect the vacuum hose at the intake door actuator.
  2.  
  3. Remove the defroster duct which is located near the passenger seat.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the connectors at the blower motor and at the resistor.
  6.  
  7. Remove the mounting bolts and the housing.
  8.

  1. The motor may be removed by removing the bolts and pulling it out. Be careful to retain the washers and spacers.
  2.  
  3. To install, reverse the removal procedures.

1979-88 Models
WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the lower instrument panel cover and the glove box.
  4.  
  5. Remove the floor nozzle, the defroster duct and the side defroster duct on the right side.
  6.  
  7. Remove the heater duct.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the blower motor wiring harness.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the control cable at the blower assembly by removing the clip.
  12.  
  13. Remove the blower assembly-to-firewall bolts and the blower assembly.
  14.  
  15. The motor and fan can be removed by removing the motor retaining screws.
  16.  

The fan simply bolts onto the motor shaft.

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedures.
  2.  

The motor and fan can also be removed without removing the entire blower housing assembly:

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the lower instrument panel cover and the floor nozzle on the right side.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the blower motor wiring harness.
  6.  
  7. Remove the mounting screws, then the motor and fan as a unit from the blower housing.
  8.  

WITH AIR CONDITIONING

See Figures 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument panel lower cover on the right side. Remove the glove box.
  4.  
  5. Remove the floor nozzle, the defroster duct and the side defroster duct on the passenger's side.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the blower motor electrical harness.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect and label the two vacuum hoses.
  10.  
  11. Remove the mounting bolts and the blower assembly.
  12.  
  13. To install, reverse the removal procedures.
  14.  

The motor can be removed without removing the blower assembly:

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.

  1. Remove the instrument panel lower cover and the floor nozzle on the right side.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the blower motor electrical harness.
  4.  
  5. Remove the mounting screws, then the motor and fan as an assembly from the blower housing.
  6.  
  7. To install, reverse the removal procedures.
  8.
