REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



The combination switch operates the lights, wipers, windshield washer, turn signals and the dimmer switch on 1970-78 models. in addition, on 1979 and later models, an automatic speed control was been added to the assembly.

1970-78 Models

See Figure 1

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2.  
  3. Remove the screws which hold the shell cover halves together and the covers from the column jacket.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect all six (five on 1977 and later models) electrical connectors.
  6.  
  7. Remove the two screws which hold the switch to the column jacket.
  8.

  1. Separate the switch halves (without disconnecting the connector which connects the two halves electrically) and remove the switch.
  2.  
  3. To install, reverse the removal procedures, ensuring that the location tab inside the turn signal switch lines up with the hole in the jacket of the steering column.

1979-83 Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the horn pad.
  4.  
  5. Remove the steering wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the steering column cover.
  8.  
  9. Unplug the combination switch wires at the electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the retaining screws and the combination switch assembly.
  12.  
  13. To install, reverse the removal procedures.
  14.  

1984-88 Models

See Figure 2

The wiper switch can be removed without removing the combination switch from the steering column.

  1. Remove the steering column cover.
  2.  
  3. Unfasten the wiper switch electrical connector.
  4.

  1. Remove the wiper switch-to-combination switch retaining screws, then pull the wiper switch from the combination switch.
  2.  
  3. To install, reverse the removal procedures.
