REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Pitman Arm

See Figure 1

  1. Block the rear wheels.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the front of the vehicle on jackstands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the cross link-to-Pitman arm cotter pin and the castle nut.
  6.

  1. Using the Ball Joint Removal tool No. HT72520000, separate the cross link from the Pitman arm.
  2.  
  3. Remove the Pitman arm nut and washer from the power steering pump.
  4.  
  5. Using the Steering Gear Arm Puller tool No. ST29020001, separate the Pitman arm from the power steering pump.
  6.  
  7. To install, reverse the removal procedures. Tighten the Pitman arm-to-power steering pump to 101-130 ft. lbs. (137-177 Nm) and the ball joint-to-Pitman arm nut to 40-72 ft. lbs. (54-98 Nm).

Idler Arm

  1. Block the rear wheels.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the front of the vehicle on jackstands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the cross link-to-idler arm cotter pin and the castle nut.
  6.  
  7. Using the Ball Joint Removal tool No. HT72520000, separate the cross link from the idler arm.
  8.  
  9. Remove the idler arm assembly-to-frame nuts, bolts and washer, then the assembly from the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. To install, reverse the removal procedures. Tighten the idler arm assembly-to-frame nuts/bolts to 23-31 ft. lbs. (31-42 Nm) and the ball joint-to-idler arm nut to 40-72 ft. lbs. (54-98 Nm).

Center Link

  1. Block the rear wheels.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the front of the vehicle on jackstands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the cross link-to-Pitman arm, the cross link-to-idler arm and the cross link-to-tie rods cotter pins and the castle nuts.
  6.  
  7. Using the Ball Joint Removal tool No. HT72520000, separate the cross link from the Pitman arm, the idler arm and the tie rod ends.
  8.  
  9. Remove the cross link from the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. To install, reverse the removal procedures. Tighten the cross link-to-ball joint nuts to 40-72 ft. lbs. (54-98 Nm).
