Power Windows



Diagnosis & Testing
  1. Remove the door panel. For additional information, refer to the following section, -Power Windows, Window Motor and Regulator.-
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the wiring harness from the power window motor.
  4.  
  5. Test the motor by connecting battery power and ground according to the table.
    WARNING
    When the motor stops running, disconnect one lead immediately.

  6.  
  7. If the motor does not run or fails to run smoothly, replace it.

NOTE
This requires the use of KTC trim tool set SOJATP2014 and Trim pad remover, Snap-on® A177A, or equivalent, commercially available trim removal tools.


NOTE
Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components.

  1. Lower the glass fully.
  2.  
  3. Using the appropriate trim tool, pry out on the rear portion of the cover to release the hooks, then remove the cover and the screws securing the inner handle.

  5. Remove the power window switch panel, as follows:
    1. Using the appropriate trim tool pry up on the rear edge of the switch panel tape to release the rear clip.
    2.  
    3. Pull out along the edge of the panel to release the hooks and front clip.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the power mirror switch connector (driver's) and the power window switch connector.

  7. Remove the door panel with as little bending as possible to avoid creasing or breaking it, as follows:
    1. Remove the screws.
    2.  
    3. Use a commercially available trim pad remover to detach the clips.
    4.  
    5. Starting at the rear, pull the door panel upward, then release the lock knob.
      WARNING
      To prevent damaging the components inside the door, don-t use excessive force when raising the panel.

  9. Disconnect the inner handle cable from the inner handle.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the courtesy light bulb connector and the driving position memory switch connector, then remove the door panel. Take care not to bend the cable.
  12.  
  13. Remove the plastic cover.
  14.  
  15. Carefully raise the glass until you can see the bolts, then remove them. Carefully pull the glass out through the window slot.

  17. Disconnect the connector from the regulator.
  18.  
  19. Remove and/or loosen the bolts, then remove the regulator through the hole in the door.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse order of removal.
    NOTE
    When reinstalling the door panel, make sure the plastic cover is installed properly and sealed around its outside perimeter to seal out water.

  5. Remove the power window switch panel, as follows:
    1. Using the appropriate trim tool pry up on the rear edge of the switch panel tape to release the rear clip.
    2.  
    3. Pull out along the edge of the panel to release the hooks and front clip.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the power mirror switch connector (driver's) and the power window switch connector.

    1. Remove the screws.

  9. Disconnect the inner handle cable from the inner handle.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the courtesy light bulb connector and the driving position memory switch connector, then remove the door panel. Take care not to bend the cable.

  13. If necessary, remove the screws securing the inner handle, then remove the handle from the door panel.
  14.  
  15. Remove the screw and disconnect the connector(s) from the window switch panel, then remove the switch assembly from the door panel.

  17. Remove the four mounting screws, then remove the switch from the switch panel.

To install:

  1. Install the switch in the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Install the door panel in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    1. Replace any damaged clips.
    2.  
    3. Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly, and that the cable and the bulb socket are connected properly.
    4.  
    5. Make sure the window and power door lock operate properly.
    6.

  5. For the driver-s side, perform the power window control unit reset procedure, as follows:
    1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
    2.  
    3. Move the driver's window all the way down by using the driver's window DOWN switch.
    4.  
    5. Open the driver's door.
      NOTE
      Step d-g. must be done within 5 seconds of each other.

    6.  
    7. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    8.  
    9. Push and hold the driver's window DOWN switch.
    10.  
    11. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
    12.  
    13. Release the driver's window DOWN switch.
    14.  
    15. Repeat d.-g. three more times.
    16.  
    17. Wait 1 second.
    18.  
    19. Confirm that AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN do not work. If AUTO UP and DOWN work, go back to step a.
    20.  
    21. Move the driver's window all the way down by using the driver's window DOWN switch.
    22.  
    23. Pull up and hold the driver's window UP switch until the window reaches the fully closed position, then continue to hold the switch for 1 second.
    24.  
    25. Confirm that the power window control unit is reset by using the driver's window AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN function.
    26.  
    27. If the window still does not work in AUTO, repeat the procedure several times, paying close attention to the 5 second time limit between steps.
