Trouble Code: P0016

Crankshaft/Camshaft Timing Misalignment

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine cranking or running; and the PCM detected the camshaft was out of phase with the crankshaft during the CCM test period.

Possible Causes:



Base engine problem (i.e., the camshaft timing is not correct)
 
Intermittent condition
 
CKP or CMP Sensor signal is erratic (check with lab scope)
 
Tone wheel or pulse wheel is damaged or contains debris
 
CKP or CMP Sensor, harness or connector has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0031

O2 (B1 S1) Heater Circuit Low

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on; system voltage over 10.6v; ASD relay on; O2 heater "on". The PCM detected the O2 Heater circuit is out of acceptable range low.

Possible Causes:



O2 assembly is damaged or it has failed
 
O2 heater element is damaged or has failed
 
O2 heater control circuit is shorted to ground
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0032

O2 (B1 S1) Heater Circuit High

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on; system voltage over 10.6v; ASD relay on; O2 heater "off". The PCM detected the O2 Heater circuit is out of range high.

Possible Causes:



O2 heater element is damaged or the heater has failed
 
O2 heater control circuit is open or it is shorted to power
 
O2 heater ground circuit is open
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0033

Surge Valve Solenoid Circuit Fault

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on or engine running; system voltage over 10v. The PCM detected the Actual state of the Surge Valve solenoid circuit did not match the Intended state during the CCM test.

Possible Causes:



Surge valve power supply is open (test power from ASD relay)
 
Surge valve solenoid circuit is open
 
Surge valve solenoid circuit is shorted to ground or power (B+)
 
Surge valve solenoid is damaged or it has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0037

O2 (B1 S2) Heater Circuit Low

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on; system voltage over 10.6v; ASD relay on; O2 heater "on". The PCM detected the O2 Heater circuit is out of acceptable range (i.e., below 0.0926v).

Possible Causes:



O2 assembly is damaged or it has failed
 
O2 heater element is damaged or has failed
 
O2 heater control circuit is shorted to ground
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0038

O2 (B1 S2) Heater Circuit High

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on; system voltage over 10.6v; ASD relay on; O2 heater "off". The PCM detected the O2 heater voltage is out of range high.

Possible Causes:



O2 Sensor failed or improper operation
 
O2 heater element is damaged or failed
 
O2 heater control circuit is open or it is shorted to power
 
O2 heater ground circuit is open
 
PCM has failed

O2 (B2 S1) Heater Relay Circuit Low

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on, system voltage over 10.6v, ASD relay on, O2 heater "on", and the PCM detected the Heater Relay circuit Actual state did not match the Desired state (low circuit).

Possible Causes:



O2 assembly is damaged, or the O2 heater element is damaged or has failed
 
O2 heater control circuit is shorted to ground

O2 (B2 S1) Heater Relay Circuit Low

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on, system voltage over 10.6v, ASD relay on, O2 heater "on", and the PCM detected the Heater Relay circuit Actual state did not match the Desired state (low circuit). 3 good trips are required to turn off the MIL.

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on, system voltage over 10.6v, ASD relay on, O2 heater "off", and the PCM detected the Heater Relay circuit Actual state did not match the Desired state (high circuit).

O2 heater element is damaged or the heater has failed
 
O2 heater control circuit is open or it is shorted to power
 
O2 heater ground circuit is open

O2 (B2 S1) Heater Relay Circuit Low

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on, system voltage over 10.6v, ASD relay on, O2 heater "on", and the PCM detected the Heater Relay circuit Actual state did not match the Desired state (low circuit).

O2 assembly is damaged or it has failed

O2 (B2 S2) Heater Relay Circuit Low

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on, system voltage over 10.6v, ECT input under test condition value, and the PCM detected the Heater Relay signal was too low.

O2 heater element is damaged or has failed
 
O2 heater control circuit is shorted to ground

Trouble Code: P0058

O2 (B2 S2) Heater Relay Circuit High

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on, system voltage over 10.6v, ASD powered up, and O2 heater is off. ECT input under test condition value and the PCM detected the Heater Relay signal was too high.

Possible Causes:



O2 heater element is damaged or the heater has failed
 
O2 heater control circuit is open or it is shorted to power
 
O2 heater ground circuit is open
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0068

MAP Sensor/TP Sensor Correction - High Flow/Vacuum Leak

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; engine speed over 2000 rpm, and the PCM detected the Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) value dropped to less than 1.5" Hg with the throttle closed during the test.

Possible Causes:



An engine vacuum leak present
 
High resistance in the MAP ground circuit, MAP Sensor signal or VREF (5v) circuit
 
High resistance in the TP ground, TP circuit or the TP Sensor VREF (5v) circuit
 
MAP Sensor is damaged or it has failed
 
TP Sensor is damaged or it has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0070

Ambient Temperature Sensor Circuit Stuck

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started 4 times, 4 warm-up cycles completed, vehicle driven for 200 miles, and the PCM did not detect more than a 6ºF change in the Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) Sensor signal in the test.

Possible Causes:



AAT Sensor signal circuit shorted to power (VREF)
 
AAT Sensor ground circuit is open
 
AAT Sensor signal circuit is open
 
AAT Sensor signal circuit is shorted to ground
 
PCM High or Low circuit is damaged or it has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0071

Ambient Temperature Sensor Performance

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine "off" time over 8 hours; DTC P0072 and P0073 not set; ambient temperature more than 38ºF (4C). The PCM determined the Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) Sensor was not within calibrated temperature of the ECT and IAT Sensor signals after a cool down period.

Possible Causes:



AAT Sensor circuit open, shorted to ground or VREF
 
AAT Sensor voltage below 1.0v
 
AAT signal circuit is open or is shorted to ground, to battery voltage or to Sensor ground
 
AAT Sensor ground circuit is open
 
AAT Sensor is damaged or it has failed
 
PCM High or Low circuit is damaged or it has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0072

Ambient Temperature Sensor Circuit Low Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Related DTCs not set, key on or engine running; system voltage over 10.5v, at least 5 warm-up cycles completed, odometer mileage change at least 196.6 miles, and the PCM detected the AAT Sensor signal was less than 0.3v (0.78v: Jeep) at PCM. 3 good trips required to turn off MIL.

Possible Causes:



AAT Sensor internal failure
 
AAT signal circuit shorted to ground
 
AAT signal circuit shorted to Sensor ground
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0073

Ambient Temperature Sensor Circuit High Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on or engine running; system voltage over 10.0v and the PCM detected the Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) Sensor signal was more than 4.9v for more than 2.8 seconds. Note that this code can be set due to an intermittent failure. 3 good trips are required to turn off the MIL.

Possible Causes:



AAT Sensor signal shorted to VREF (5v) or battery voltage
 
AAT Sensor signal circuit or Sensor ground circuit is open
 
AAT Sensor is damaged (it may be open)
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0106

BARO Out-Of-Range at Key On / MAP Sensor Low

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on for less than 350 ms; engine speed less than 255 rpm, and the PCM detected the MAP Sensor input was less than 2.196v but more than 0.019v during a 300 ms period.

Possible Causes:



Loss of 5-volt supply from PCM (internal failure)
 
Sensor 5-volt supply circuit is shorted, open or grounded
 
Sensor signal circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
Sensor has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0107

MAP Sensor Circuit Low Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine speed from 600-3500 rpm; TP Sensor input less than 1.2v, system voltage over 10.6v, and the PCM detected the MAP input was below 0.0392v (conditions met for 1.76 seconds).

Possible Causes:



MAP Sensor connector is damaged or shorted
 
MAP Sensor 5v supply circuit is open or it is shorted to ground
 
MAP Sensor signal circuit is shorted to ground
 
MAP Sensor has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0108

MAP Sensor Circuit High Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Ignition on or engine speed from 600-3500 rpm (above 400 for Viper); TP Sensor input more than 1.2v, for more than 1.7 seconds; battery voltage over 10.0v. The PCM detected the MAP Sensor signal voltage (input) was over 4.92v (exc. Viper), or was greater than 4.88v at start or with engine running for 2.2 seconds (Viper).

Possible Causes:



MAP Sensor signal circuit is open
 
MAP Sensor ground circuit is open
 
MAP Sensor signal circuit shorted to 5-volt supply circuit or to battery voltage
 
MAP Sensor has failed or it has failed (possible open circuit)

IAT Sensor Circuit High or Low Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on for 60 seconds or right after startup; and the PCM detected an IAT Sensor input of 4.6v or less than 0.2v for 4 seconds.

IAT Sensor signal circuit is open, shorted to ground or to VREF
 
IAT Sensor signal circuit has a high resistance condition
 
IAT Sensor is damaged or it has failed

IAT Sensor Performance

Trouble Code Conditions: DTC P0112 and P0113 not set, key on, ECT Sensor input more than 160ºF at startup, at least 5 warm-up cycles have occurred with vehicle mileage change of more than 196.6 miles, and the PCM detected the IAT input changed less than 5.4ºF during this period.

Possible Causes:



IAT Sensor signal circuit is open, shorted to ground or VREF
 
IAT Sensor ground circuit is open
 
IAT Sensor is damaged or it has failed
 
PCM High or Low circuit is damaged or it has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0112

IAT Sensor Circuit Low Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Ignition on or engine started; battery voltage greater than 10v. If the PCM detected an IAT Sensor input of less than 0.1v (Neon), 0.157v (Cirrus/Sebring, Stratus, Caravan/Town & Country) or less than 0.078v (Durango, Ram, Grand Cherokee) for 3 seconds, less than 0.8v (Viper), or less than 0.5v (Liberty) this DTC will set.

Possible Causes:



IAT Sensor signal circuit is shorted to chassis ground
 
IAT Sensor signal circuit is shorted to Sensor ground
 
IAT Sensor is damaged or it has failed (an internal short circuit)

Trouble Code: P0113

IAT Sensor Circuit High Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Check with ignition on or engine running; battery voltage more than 10v; The PCM detected the IAT Sensor input was over 4.90v (exc. Dakota, Durango, Ram) or 4.98v (Dakota, Durango, Ram) for 3 seconds.

Possible Causes:



IAT Sensor signal circuit shorted to VREF (5v)
 
IAT Sensor signal circuit is open, or the ground circuit is open
 
IAT Sensor is damaged or it has failed (an internal open circuit)
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0116

ECT Sensor Circuit Performance

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; engine runtime over 10 minutes, and the PCM detected the ECT Sensor did not reach a calibrated level during the test period (i.e., it failed the CCM rationality test).

Possible Causes:



ECT Sensor signal circuit is open or it is shorted to ground
 
ECT Sensor signal circuit is shorted to VREF (5v)
 
ECT Sensor ground circuit is open
 
ECT Sensor is damaged or it has failed
 
PCM High or Low circuit is damaged or it has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0117

ECT Sensor Circuit Low Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Ignition on or engine started. The PCM detected the ECT Sensor input voltage was below 0.51v (95-03) or 0.1v (04-05, exc. Grand Cherokee, Liberty), less than 0.5v (04-05 Liberty), less than 0.78v (Grand Cherokee), or below 0.8v (Viper) for 3 seconds.

Possible Causes:



ECT Sensor signal circuit is shorted to chassis ground
 
ECT Sensor signal circuit is shorted to Sensor ground
 
ECT Sensor is damaged or it has failed (it may be shorted)
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0118

ECT Sensor Circuit High Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Ignition on or engine started and the PCM detected the ECT Sensor input was over 4.9v for 3 seconds. If equipped, the ETC lamp will illuminate with the MIL. 3 good trips are required to turn off the MIL.

Possible Causes:



ECT Sensor signal circuit is shorted to VREF (5v)
 
ECT Sensor signal circuit is open
 
ECT Sensor ground circuit is open
 
ECT Sensor is damaged or it has failed (possible open circuit)

Trouble Code: P0120

Throttle Position Sensor Circuit

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; and the TCM detected an unexpected change in the throttle angle, or that the throttle angle went out-of-range abruptly.

TP Sensor signal circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
TP Sensor ground circuit is open
 
TP Sensor signal circuit to TCM is open or shorted to ground
 
TP Sensor is damaged or it has failed

Trouble Code: P0121

TP Sensor Does Not Agree With MAP

Trouble Code Conditions: DTC P0107, P0108, P0122 and P0123 not set, engine running with throttle plate closed (at high vacuum), and the PCM detected the TP Sensor input was high when it should have been low (High Input Test), or with the engine running and the VSS input over 25 mph, throttle plate open (at low vacuum), the PCM detected the TP Sensor input was low when it should have been high, conditions met for 4 seconds.

Possible Causes:



MAP Sensor and/or TP Sensor VREF (5v) not present
 
MAP or TP Sensor ground circuit has high resistance
 
MAP or TP Sensor signal circuit has high resistance
 
TP Sensor is damaged or has failed

Trouble Code: P0122

TP Sensor Circuit Low Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on or engine running; system voltage over 10.5v and the PCM detected the TP Sensor indicated less than 0.0978v for 700 ms.

TP Sensor VREF (5v) circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
TP Sensor 5v supply circuit is shorted to ground
 
TP Sensor signal circuit is shorted to ground

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on or engine running; system voltage over 10.5v and the PCM detected the TP Sensor indicated more than 4.50v for 700 ms.

TP Sensor signal circuit is open or is shorted to VREF (5v)
 
TP Sensor is damaged or has failed (an internal open circuit)

TP Sensor/APPS Circuit Intermittent

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on or engine running; system voltage over 10.5v. This DTC will set if the monitored TP Sensor angle between 6-120 and the degree change is greater than 5 within a period of less than 7.0ms.

Related TP Sensor engine DTCs present
 
TP Sensor has failed
 
Intermittent wiring or connector problem
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0125

Closed Loop Temperature Not Reached

Trouble Code Conditions: DTC P0117 and P0118 not set, ECT Sensor between -20ºF and +21.2ºF at startup, engine runtime over 10 minutes, vehicle speed more than 28 mph, and the PCM detected the ECT Sensor did not reach 174ºF after 20 minutes of sustained engine operation.

Possible Causes:



Check the operation of the thermostat (it may be stuck open)
 
ECT Sensor is damaged or it is out-of-calibration
 
Inspect for low coolant level or for an incorrect coolant mixture
 

Trouble Code: P0128

Thermostat Rationality Test

Trouble Code Conditions: DTC P0117, P0118, P1492 and P1493 not set, ECT Sensor between 20ºF and 130ºF at startup, and the PCM detected the ECT Sensor did not exceed 170ºF after 10-32 minutes of sustained engine operation (the actual time depends on the ECT Sensor at startup).

Possible Causes:



Check the operation of the thermostat (it may be stuck open)
 
ECT Sensor is contaminated, damaged or it has failed
 
Inspect for low coolant level or for an incorrect coolant mixture
 

Trouble Code: P0129

Barometric Pressure Out-Of-Range

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine cranking at less than 250 rpm; no CKP or CMP Sensor signals within 75ms. The PCM detected the MAP/BARO Sensor signal range was 0.04-2.2v for 300ms during testing. If equipped, the ETC lamp will be illuminated. 3 good trips are required to turn off the MIL.

Possible Causes:



IAC motor control low or control high circuit has failed
 
MAP Sensor VREF (5v) circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
MAP Sensor signal circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
MAP Sensor is damaged or it has failed
 
May be an intermittent condition

Trouble Code: P0131

O2 (B1 S1) Short to Ground

Trouble Code Conditions: ECT Sensor over 170ºF on previous key on, ECT Sensor under 98ºF and BTS within 27ºF of ECT Sensor, and the PCM detected the O2 signal was below 156 mV for 28 seconds.

Possible Causes:



O2 signal circuit is shorted to chassis or Sensor ground
 
O2 ground circuit is open (circuit reads 170 mV when open)
 
O2 may be contaminated or it has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0132

O2 (B1 S1) Circuit Short to Voltage

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; engine runtime over 119 seconds, system voltage over 10.5v, ECT Sensor more than 176ºF, and the PCM detected the O2 signal was more than 1.29v for 3 seconds.

Possible Causes:



O2 signal circuit shorted to heater B+ circuit (inspect the connector for oil or moisture inside the terminal area)
 
O2 signal circuit is open
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0133

O2 (B1 S1) Slow Response

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine at idle speed, system voltage over 10.5v, then engine speed from 1216-1984 rpm, VSS input from 19-46 mph, BTS signal more than 44ºF, BARO signal more than 22.16" Hg, MAP Sensor signal from 11.9-18.15" Hg, then back to idle speed in Drive, and the PCM detected the O2 signal did not switch enough times from below 330 mV to above 610 mV, condition met for 60 seconds.

Possible Causes:



Exhaust leak present in the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipes
 
O2 element is fuel contaminated
 
O2 element is deteriorated or it has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0134

O2 (B1 S1) Remains At Center

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine runtime more than 121 seconds, system voltage over 10.5v, ECT Sensor more than 150.8ºF, fuel control system in closed loop mode, and the PCM detected the O2 signal remained fixed in a range between 350-580 mV, condition met for 60 seconds.

Possible Causes:



Exhaust leak present in exhaust manifold or exhaust pipes
 
O2 element is fuel contaminated or has deteriorated
 
O2S signal circuit or ground circuit has high resistance
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0135

O2 (B1 S1) Heater Circuit

Trouble Code Conditions: ECT Sensor less than 147ºF and BTS signal within 27ºF of the ECT Sensor (cold engine), engine started, engine running at idle speed for over 12 seconds, system voltage over 10.5v and the PCM detected the O2 signal was more than 3.0v for 30-90 seconds.

Possible Causes:



ASD relay output (power) circuit to the heater is open
 
O2 heater ground circuit is open
 
O2 heater element is damaged or has high resistance
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0137

O2 (B1 S2) Circuit Short to Ground

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; engine runtime over 119 seconds, system voltage over 10.99v, O2 heater temperature over 1085ºF and the PCM detected the O2 input was over 3.70v for 1 minute.

Possible Causes:



O2 signal tracking in connector due to wet/oil conditions
 
O2 signal circuit is open, or the ground circuit is open
 
O2 heater supply circuit is open
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0138

O2 (B1 S2) Circuit Short to Voltage

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine runtime over 2 minutes, system voltage over 10.5v, ECT Sensor more than 170ºF, and the PCM detected the O2 signal was more than 1.20v for over 3 seconds.

Possible Causes:



O2 signal tracking (wet/oily) causing a short to heater power
 
O2 signal circuit open, or ground circuit open
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0139

O2 (B1 S2) Slow Response

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; vehicle driven at 20-55 mph with the throttle open for 2 minutes, ECT Sensor more than 158ºF, Converter temperature over 1112ºF, EVAP purge "on", and the PCM detected the O2 signal switched from rich-to-lean less than 11 times in 20 seconds.

Possible Causes:



Exhaust leak present in the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipes
 
O2 element is contaminated, deteriorated or it has failed
 
O2 ground or O2 signal circuit has high resistance
 

Trouble Code: P0141

O2 (B1 S2) Heater Circuit

Trouble Code Conditions: ECT Sensor less than 147ºF, BTS signal within 27ºF of ECT Sensor (cold engine); engine running at idle speed for over 12 seconds, system voltage over 10.5v and the PCM detected the O2 signal was more than 3.0v for 30-90 seconds.

Possible Causes:



ASD relay output (power) circuit to the heater is open
 
O2 heater ground circuit open or O2 signal circuit is open
 
O2 heater element has high resistance
 
O2 heater element has failed (open or shorted)

Trouble Code: P0151

O2 (B2 S1) Circuit Short to Ground

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine runtime less than 3 seconds, ECT Sensor less than 120ºF at engine startup, and the PCM detected the O2 signal indicated less than 160 mV right after engine startup.

Possible Causes:



O2 signal circuit is shorted to chassis or Sensor ground
 
O2 signal circuit is open (circuit reads 450 mV when open)
 
O2 ground circuit is open (circuit reads 170 mV when open)
 
O2 may be contaminated or it has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0152

O2 (B2 S1) Circuit Shorted to Power

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine runtime over 119 seconds, system voltage over 10.99v, O2 heater temperature more than 1085ºF, and the PCM detected the O2 signal was more than 3.70v for 1 minute.

Possible Causes:



O2 signal tracking (wet/oily) in connector causing a short between the signal and heater power circuits
 
O2 ground circuit is open
 
O2 signal circuit is open
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0153

O2 (B2 S1) Slow Response

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; vehicle driven at a steady speed of 20-55 mph with the throttle open for at least 2 minutes, ECT Sensor more than 158ºF (70C), Catalytic Converter temperature more than 1112ºF (600C), and the PCM detected the O2 signal switched from rich-to-lean less than 12 times within a 60 second period.

Possible Causes:



Exhaust leak present in the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipes
 
O2 signal or ground circuit has a high resistance condition
 
O2 element is fuel contaminated

O2 signal tracking due to wet/oily condition in the connector

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; engine runtime more than 50 seconds under closed throttle conditions; A/C off; ECT Sensor more than 167ºF (75C). The PCM detected that one of the CKP Sensor windows had too much variance (e.g., over 2.86%) from its calibrated reference point.

Possible Causes:



Crankshaft tone wheel flex plate is damaged
 
Tone wheel/pulse ring may be damaged
 
Erratic CKP Sensor signals (wiring/connector problem)

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running. The Knock Sensor circuit voltage falls below a minimum value at idle or deceleration. The minimum value is from a lookup table internal to the PCM and is based on engine rpm. This DTC will also set if the Sensor voltage goes above 5v. 3 good trips required to turn off MIL.

Knock Sensor No. 2 signal circuit shorted to battery voltage or to KS 2 return circuit

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine cranking or running; ASD relay on, system voltage over 10v, Coil No. 1, 2 or 3 was not in dwell period when it was checked, and the PCM detected that the peak coil current was not reached in 2.5 ms of dwell for 3-6 seconds. The coil primary resistance is less than 2 ohms.

EGR System Fault

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running with throttle open under steady load in closed loop, ECT Sensor more than 180ºF, BTS signal more than 0ºF, system voltage over 10.5v, fuel trim not operating near its limits, then the EGR valve was cycled off to on and the PCM detected very little change in the O2 signal. Note: This test is repeated up to three (3) times for each vehicle trip.

Catalyst (2/1) Efficiency Below Normal

Trouble Code Conditions: After engine warm-up, ECT Sensor more than 170ºF for 180 seconds of open throttle operation and over 20 mph (engine between 1200-1700 rpm and MAP vacuum between 15-20 in. Hg). As catalyst efficiency deteriorates, the switch rate of the downstream O2 Sensor approaches that of the upstream O2 Sensor. If, at any point during the test, the switch ratio reaches a predetermined value, a counter is incremented by one. 3 good trips required to turn off MIL.

Trouble Code Conditions: Ambient Air Temperature from 39-89ºF (4-32C); engine running; Fuel level over 12%. The PCM detected that the NVLD switch did not close during medium/large leak test. Once this event occurs, the PCM will increase the amount of vacuum in the system that flows past the purge valve. If the NVLD switch does not close under these conditions, the PCM will set this code.

Possible Causes:



EVAP purge valve vacuum supply is leaking or clogged
 
EVAP purge valve is stuck closed
 
EVAP purge solenoid has failed
 
NVLD assembly (leak detection) is damaged or has failed

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine at idle speed in closed loop for 200 seconds, BARO Sensor signal less than 8,000 feet, ECT Sensor more than 160ºF, no Low Fuel, MAP Sensor signal less than 23.7" Hg, and the PCM did not detect any purge flow through the EVAP system during this test.

Trouble Code Conditions: Ambient Air Temperature from 39-89ºF at engine startup, engine running under closed loop conditions, Fuel Level over 12%, then with the EVAP purge solenoid enabled (to pull vacuum into the system to close the NVLD switch) and the EVAP "small leak" test maturing, the PCM turns "off" the EVAP purge solenoid once the NVLD switch closes. If the NVLD switch reopens before a calibrated amount of time expires, a "large" leak in the system is detected (larger than 0.080 in.).

Vehicle Speed Sensor Circuit Fault

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; engine runtime over 31 seconds, ECT Sensor more than 180ºF, transaxle not in Park or Neutral, brakes not applied, engine speed over 1800 rpm, MAP Sensor less than 11" Hg, and the PCM did not detect a VSS signal from the TCM for over 11 seconds.

Possible Causes:



VSS or OSS signal circuit to the PCM is open or shorted to ground
 
VSS or OSS power circuit (8v) is open or shorted to ground
 
VSS or OSS ground circuit to the PCM is open
 
Speedometer pinion or the VSS is damaged or has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0501

Vehicle Speed Sensor Performance

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; vehicle driven at over 1500 rpm for 10 seconds, gear selector not in Park or Neutral (or clutch is not depressed on M/T); brakes not applied. The PCM (or ECM: Liberty with Diesel) did not receive any VSS signals from the TCM (BCM: Liberty) for 11 seconds for 2 consecutive trips. 3 good trips required to turn off MIL.

Possible Causes:



Check for any ABS/RWAL or TCM codes related to the VSS
 
VSS connector is damaged, open or it is shorted
 
VSS signal is open, shorted to ground or shorted to power
 
Incorrect tire circumference
 
ABS/RWAL controller, BCM, ECM, TCM or PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0503

Vehicle Speed Sensor No. 1 Erratic Performance

Trouble Code Conditions: Ignition is on; battery voltage over 10v; transmission in Drive or Reverse; brakes not applied. Vehicle speed signal is erratic during road load conditions. One-trip fault for ETC vehicles; Two-trip fault for ETC vehicles. 3 good trips required to turn off MIL.

Possible Causes:



Check for active Bus or Communication DTCs
 
Incorrect Tire Circumference
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0505

Idle Air Control Motor Circuit

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; system voltage over 11.5v and the PCM detected an unexpected voltage condition on one or more of the IAC motor circuits for 2.75 seconds (exc. Viper) or for 100ms (Viper), with the IAC motor active.

Possible Causes:



Stepper motor Coil No. 1, 2, 3 or 4 circuit open or shorted to ground
 
Stepper motor coil circuit(s) shorted to system power (B+)
 
Stepper motor is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0506

Idle Speed Low Performance

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running at idle speed in closed loop, and the PCM detected the actual idle speed was not within the expected low idle speed limit when compared to the target idle speed limit.

Possible Causes:



Air induction system restrictions (clogged air filter, etc.)
 
Idle air control passage is clogged or dirty (clean and retest)
 
Throttle body or linkage is binding, damaged or sticking
 

Trouble Code: P0507

Idle Speed High Performance

Trouble Code Conditions: No CKP, ECT, MAF, MAP or VSS codes set, engine started, engine running at idle speed, BTS Sensor from 0-19.4F, ECT Sensor from 158-266F, MAF Sensor under 250 mg, and the PCM detected the Actual speed was 200 rpm above the Target speed for 7 seconds.

Possible Causes:



Idle air control passage is clogged or dirty (clean and retest)
 
Throttle body or linkage is binding, damaged or sticking
 
Vacuum leaks in the engine or PCV system components
 
Intermittent condition
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0508

Idle Air Control Motor Sense Circuit Low Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; system voltage over 10.5v; IAC motor operating. The PCM detected the IAC Motor Sense circuit current was less than 175mA during the CCM test period.

Possible Causes:



IAC motor driver circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
IAC motor sense circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
IAC motor is damaged or it has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0509

Idle Air Control Motor Circuit High

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; system voltage over 10.5v, IAC motor activated, and the PCM detected a high voltage on one or more of the IAC motor circuits (over 980mA) during the CCM test period.

Possible Causes:



IAC motor driver circuit is shorted to power
 
IAC motor sense circuit is shorted to power
 
IAC motor is damaged or it has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0513

Invalid SKIM Key Detected

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on, and the PCM detected an invalid Sentry Key Immobilizer key had been inserted into the ignition key assembly.

Possible Causes:



Incorrect VIN in the PCM
 
No communication between the PCM and the SKIM
 
SKIM trouble codes present (check for any SKIM codes)
 
Valid SKIM key not present
 
VIN not programmed into the PCM
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0516

Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit Low Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on or engine running; and the PCM detected a Battery Temperature Sensor signal that indicated less than 0.10v (exc. Ram, Liberty) or less than 0.039v (Ram, Liberty). 3 good trips required to turn off MIL.

Possible Causes:



BTS signal circuit is shorted to Sensor or chassis ground
 
BTS assembly is damaged or it has failed
 
PCM has failed

Battery Temperature Sensor Circuit High Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on or engine running; and the PCM detected a Battery Temperature Sensor signal that indicated more than 4.8v (exc. Ram, Liberty) or more than 4.94v (Ram, Liberty).

Possible Causes:



BTS signal circuit is shorted to VREF (5v)
 
BTS signal circuit is open or the BTS ground circuit is open
 
BTS assembly is damaged or it has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0519

Idle Air Performance

Trouble Code Conditions: DTC P0106, P0107, P0108, P0121, P0122 and P0123 not set, engine started, engine running with the gear selector indicating Drive position, and the PCM detected the engine idle speed was not within 200 rpm of the high idle limit or within 100 rpm of the low idle limit when compared to the Target Idle Speed limit for 40 seconds.

Possible Causes:



Idle air control passage is clogged or dirty (clean and retest)
 
Throttle body or linkage is binding, damaged or sticking

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on (engine not started). The PCM detected an engine oil pressure reading out of the calibrated range.

5v supply circuit has high resistance
 
5v supply circuit is shorted to ground

Engine Oil Pressure Sensor Does Not Reach Range

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running. The PCM detected an engine oil pressure reading never reaches the calibrated specification when engine is at 1250 rpm.

Engine oil or engine mechanical fault
 
Oil pressure Sensor signal circuit is shorted to battery
 
Oil pressure Sensor signal circuit has high resistance
 
5v supply circuit has high resistance

Engine Oil Pressure Low

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running. The PCM detected that the engine oil pressure never reaches the calibrated specification to allow the MDS activation.

Air Conditioning Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running with the A/C relay energized. The PCM detected the signal from the A/C Pressure Sensor indicated less than 0.58v for over 2.6 seconds during the CCM test period.

Possible Causes:



A/C pressure Sensor 5v power supply (VREF) circuit is open or is shorted to ground
 
A/C pressure Sensor signal circuit is shorted to ground or to Sensor ground circuit
 
A/C pressure Sensor is damaged or it has failed
 
Front A/C control module damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0533

Air Conditioning Pressure Sensor Circuit High Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running with the A/C relay energized, and the PCM detected the signal from the A/C Pressure Sensor indicated less than 4.92v for over 2.6 seconds during the CCM test period.

Possible Causes:



A/C pressure Sensor signal circuit is shorted to 5v VREF power
 
A/C pressure Sensor signal circuit or ground circuit is open
 
A/C pressure Sensor is damaged or it has failed
 
Front A/C control module is damaged or has failed

Trouble Code: P0551

Power Steering Pressure Switch Circuit Failure

Trouble Code Conditions: Vehicle driven at more than 56 mph for more than 30 seconds and the PCM detected a high voltage input on the PSPS circuit (pressure exceeds 500 psi). This is a normally open switch.

Possible Causes:



PSPS sense circuit is shorted to ground
 
PSPS is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed

Battery Sense Circuit Low Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running at a speed over 380 rpm, and the PCM detected the Battery Sense circuit voltage indicated one volt less than the Charging system "goal" (11.50v) for 13.47 seconds.

Battery sense circuit has a high resistance condition
 
Generator ground circuit has a high resistance condition
 
Generator field ground circuit is open
 
Generator field control circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
Generator is damaged or it has failed

Battery Sense Circuit High Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running at a speed over 380 rpm, and the PCM detected the Battery Sense circuit voltage indicated 1v higher than the Charging system "goal" during the CCM test.

Generator field control circuit is shorted to system power (B+)
 
Generator is damaged or it has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0571

Brake Switch No. 1 No Output Signal

Trouble Code Conditions: Ignition is on. If output of BS 1 to PCM looks like brake is not applied, while BS 2 circuit is applied, the fault will mature in 60ms.

Possible Causes:



BS 1 signal open or shorted to ground
 
BS 2 signal open or shorted to ground
 
Ground circuit is open
 
Fused ignition switch output is open
 
Stop lamp switch is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0572

Brake Switch Circuit Low

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine is running and vehicle speed is above 31 mph; battery voltage is more than 9.5v; no other brake switch DTCs are present. If the PCM detects no change from the brake switch sense circuit input after coming to a complete stop, it will increment a counter. If the counter increments 10 times, the DTC will set and the MIL will illuminate.

Possible Causes:



Intermittent condition
 
Fused B+ circuit problem
 
Brake switch sense circuit is shorted to ground
 
Brake switch is closed

Trouble Code: P0573

Brake Switch Circuit High

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine is running and vehicle speed is above 31 mph; accelerator pedal position is more than 25%; battery voltage is more than 9.5v; no other brake switch DTCs are present. If the PCM detects a high brake switch sense circuit input, it will increment a counter. If the counter increments 10 times, the DTC will set and the MIL will illuminate.

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on or engine started; system voltage over 10.0v and the PCM detected the Speed Control Switch No. 1 signal indicated less than 0.43v (exc. Liberty) or 0.60v (Liberty) for 2 minutes. 3 good trips required to turn off MIL.

S/C brake switch circuit is open or it is shorted to ground

Trouble Code: P0600

PCM Internal Failure, No SPI Communications

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on, system voltage over 10.5v and the PCM detected the initial serial data communications attempt failed 8 times in succession.

Possible Causes:



Turn the key off. Remove the PCM connector(s) and inspect the wiring harness connector pins and PCM pins for damaged, bent or missing pins. If any problems are located, make the repair and then perform the PCM Reset function. If this code resets after the repairs are made, the PCM has failed.
 
PCM needs to be replaced, and then reprogrammed

PCM Random Access Memory Failure, Self-Test Failed

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on, system voltage over 10.5v and the PCM detected the Random Access Memory (RAM) test failed in the initial Self-Test.

A/T Brake Switch Sense Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; vehicle driven to over 20 mph with the TP Sensor over 0.02v for 6 seconds, followed by a deceleration period to 0 mph at least 16 times, and the PCM detected the Brake switch signal status was not correct during the acceleration/deceleration periods.

Trouble Code Conditions: Vehicle is driven over 31 mph; battery over 9.5v. If the PCM detects no change from Brake Lamp Switch circuit input, after a complete stop, it will increment a counter. If the counter increments 10 times, this DTC will set and the MIL will illuminate.

A/T Torque Converter Clutch - No RPM Drop At Lockup

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; vehicle driven at over 1750 rpm at 50 mph for 20 seconds, TCC command at 100%, and the PCM detected the engine speed was not within 60 rpm of ISS speed with the TP angle less than 30 degrees. The test must fail 3 times on one trip to set a code.

Internal transmission component fault (Input or Reaction shaft)

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; vehicle driven at over 1000 rpm, then immediately after a shift, the PCM detected a malfunction in one or more of the Pressure Switch circuits (it tests the switches that are not operating). If the pressure switch does not close 2 times, the DTC will set.

General Temperature Sensor Performance

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine "off" more than 8 hours, then engine started, ambient temperature above -10ºF; and after a calibrated amount of cool-down time, the PCM compares the values from the Ambient Air Temperature (AAT), Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) and Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensors. If the PCM detects that the value of any combination of these Sensors (AAT-IAT, AAT-ECT or ECT-IAT) is less than a calibrated value, it will set this trouble code.

Sensor signal circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
Sensor ground circuit is open or shorted to VREF (5v)
 
One or more of the identified Sensors is out-of-calibration

If the PCM detects the CMP Sensor is offset from the CKP Sensor signal by 1 tooth, this trouble code is set. The PCM performs the Inhibit Test whenever the engine is cold, if the engine speed is outside of a given window, or if there is a large change in the MAP Sensor signal.

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running, and after every 69-degree CKP Sensor leading edge and trailing signal edge is determined, the PCM updates this data and compares it to the true CMP Sensor port level. If the PCM detects a disagreement between these two values 20 times in succession, this trouble code is set.

Camshaft Sensor is not installed properly

Misfire Adaptive Numerator At Limit

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; ECT Sensor under 75ºF; engine runtime over 50 sec.; A/C "OFF"; vehicle speed over 36 mph in 1st gear, or over 65 mph in high gear, followed by a closed throttle decel period. This code sets if the PCM detects one of the CKP Sensor target windows varies more than 2.86% from the reference window. Background - PCM needs to learn any variation in engine machining to detect when a misfire is present. CKP Sensor has 2 40 windows that are 180 apart. The window for Cylinders 1 and 4 is the reference window. It is checked against the window for Cylinders 2 and 3. The PCM checks for any variation to make engine speed adjustments.

TCM cannot communicate with the Instrument Cluster (MIC)

Charging System Voltage Too Low

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; engine speed over 1152 rpm, and the PCM detected the Battery Sense circuit was 1.0v less than the Charging System circuit for 25 seconds during the CCM test (Generator Lamp is "on").

Battery positive or Fused Ignition circuit has high resistance
 
Generator drive belt out-of-adjustment or worn out
 
Generator field circuit has a high resistance condition

Speed Control Relay Or Driver Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running with the S/C switch "on"; and the PCM detected an unusual voltage condition on the S/C Relay control circuit during the CCM test.

S/C power supply circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
S/C dump solenoid (servo) is damaged or has failed

Battery Has Been Disconnected

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on, and the TCM detected that it had been disconnected from the Battery Direct (B+) circuit or its Power Ground circuit. This DTC will also set during the scan tool Quick Battery Disconnect procedure. Note: Due to the integration of the PCM and TCM, the transmission part of the PCM has its own specific power and ground circuits.

Smart Key Immobilizer Module Invalid Key

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on, and the PCM received a message from the Smart Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) that an invalid key had been inserted.

Possible Causes:



A theft attempt may have occurred.
 
Obtain the correct key and attempt to start the vehicle
 
Do a PCM Reset function to clear the code after engine startup

No SKIM Bus Messages Received

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; and the PCM did not detect any MIC (I/P Cluster) messages over the Data Bus circuit for 20 seconds.

DRB or scan tool displays a "write" failure occurred
 
DRB or scan tool displays "write" refused a second time
 
DRB or scan tool displays SRI mileage invalid (compare the SRI mileage reading to the reading on the odometer)

PCM Failure (EMR/SRI Mileage Not Stored)

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on, and the PCM detected an unsuccessful attempt to "write" the Service Reminder Indicator (SRI) or Emission Mileage Request (EMR) mileage to an EEPROM located occurred during initialization.

Possible Causes:



Clear the trouble codes and retest for the same trouble code. If DTC P1697 resets, replace the PCM and then reprogram it.

Trouble Code Conditions: Ignition is on. When the difference between TP Sensor No. 1 degrees and TP Sensor No. 2 degrees is more than 1.995 degrees, this DTC will set.

Possible Causes:



Intermittent condition
 
5v supply circuit has high resistance
 
TP Sensor signal circuit has high resistance
 
Ground signal circuit shows high resistance
 
TP Sensors 1 & 2 require lab scope check
 
PCM has failed

Accelerator Pedal Position Sensors 1 & 2 Voltage Correlation

Trouble Code Conditions: Ignition is on. DTCs P2122, 2123, 2127 and 2128 are not present. When APP Sensor No. 1 voltage is 1.7 times the APP Sensor No. 2 voltage, and this equals more than 0.2v for 120msec, this DTC will set.

Possible Causes:



Intermittent condition
 
5v supply circuit is open or is shorted to ground
 
APP Sensor signal circuit has high resistance
 
5v supply circuit has high resistance
 
Ground signal circuit shows high resistance
 
APP Sensors 1 & 2 require lab scope check
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P2300

Ignition Coil No. 1 Secondary Circuit Low

Trouble Code Conditions: Ignition is on. If the PCM detects an open or short to ground on the Ignition Coil No. 1 control circuit for more than 15 coil change requests, it will set this DTC.

Possible Causes:



Ignition Coil No. 1 is damaged or it has failed
 
ASD relay output circuit problems
 
Ignition coil driver circuit is shorted to ground
 
PCM has failed

Ignition Coil No. 1 Secondary Circuit High

Trouble Code Conditions: Ignition is on. If the PCM detects a short to voltage on the Ignition Coil No. 1 control circuit for more than 15 coil change requests, it will set this DTC.

ASD relay output circuit problems
 
Ignition coil driver circuit is open
 
Ignition Coil No. 1 is damaged or it has failed
 
Ignition coil driver circuit is shorted to ASD output circuit
 
PCM has failed

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; and the PCM detected the Ignition Coil No. 1 secondary "burn time" was insufficient, or it was missing.

Ignition Coil No. 8 Secondary Circuit Insufficient Ionization

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; and the PCM detected the Ignition Coil No. 8 secondary "burn time" was insufficient, or it was missing.

Cylinder No. 8 spark plug or wire is damaged or it has failed
 
Ignition Coil No. 8 is damaged or it has failed
 
Ignition coil control circuit is open or shorted to ground

Trouble Code: P2503

Charging System Voltage Low

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started; engine speed over 1157 rpm; PCM detected the Battery Sense voltage was 1v less than the Charging system voltage "goal" for 13.47 seconds during the CCM test. The PCM senses the battery voltage turns off the field driver and then senses the battery voltage again. If the voltages are the same, the DTC is set.

Possible Causes:



Battery sense circuit has a high resistance condition
 
Generator ground circuit has a high resistance condition
 
Generator field ground circuit is open
 
Generator field control circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
Generator is damaged or it has failed
 

Trouble Code: U0101

No TCM Bus Message

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running. Battery voltage more than 10v. No Bus messages are received from the TCM for 20 seconds. 2 trips required.

Possible Causes:



PCI Bus unable to communicate with (DRBIII) scan tool
 
Fused ignition switch output incorrect (off-run-start)
 
Intermittent condition
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: U0155

No Cluster Bus Message

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running. Battery voltage more than 10v. No Bus messages are received from the MIC (instrument cluster) for 20 seconds.

Possible Causes:



Communication link with instrument cluster has failed
 
Instrument cluster operation improper or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: U0168

No SKIM Bus Message

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running or ignition on. Battery voltage more than 10v. No Bus or J1850 messages are received from the SKIM for 20 seconds.

Possible Causes:



Intermittent operation
 
PCI Bus circuit open or shorted from PCM to SKIM
 
Loss of communication between PCM and SKIM
