Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the A/C refrigerant by using approved equipment.
  4.  
  5. Drain the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Remove the instrument panel by removing or disconnecting the following:

    Left and right A pillar trim moldings using a trim stick
     
    Front power window switch
     
    Center bezel retaining screw
     
    Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) control knobs
     
    Center bezel using a trim stick
     
    Top cover retaining screws and pull it rearward to remove
     
    HVAC control unit from the instrument panel
     
    Retaining screws from the upper and lower steering column shrouds
     
    Left lower instrument panel bezel
     
    Steering column wire connectors
     
    Steering column
     
    Brake pedal support bracket
     
    Left side instrument panel end cap from the wiring connectors
     
    Rear power window switch from the console and pull the parking handle all the way up
     
    Auxiliary power outlet wire connector
     
    Center console
     
    Glove box assembly
     
    Right side instrument panel end cap
     
    5 right side instrument panel wire connectors
     
    Instrument panel from the vehicle, with the help of an assistant

  11. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Heater hoses from the heater core
     
    Reposition the vehicle speed control servo, if equipped
     
    Suction and liquid lines from the evaporator
     
    Drain tube
     
    A/C vacuum harness connector
     
    Defroster duct from the heater-A/C unit housing
     
    Heater-A/C unit housing from the vehicle
     
    Heater core from the housing
     

  12.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Heater core to the housing
     
    Heater-A/C unit housing to the vehicle
     
    Defroster duct to the housing
     
    A/C vacuum harness
     
    Drain tube
     
    Suction and liquid lines to the evaporator
     
    Reposition the vehicle speed control servo, if equipped
     
    Heater hoses to the heater core
     

  2.  
  3. Install the instrument panel by installing or connecting the following:

    Instrument panel
     
    Right side instrument panel wire connectors
     
    Right side instrument panel end cap
     
    Glove box assembly
     
    Center console
     
    Auxiliary power outlet wire connector
     
    Rear power window switch
     
    Left side instrument panel end cap
     
    Left side wire connectors
     
    Brake pedal support bracket
     
    Steering column with a new pinch bolt
     
    Steering column wire connectors
     
    Left lower instrument panel bezel
     
    HVAC control unit
     
    Center bezel
     
    Front power window switch
     
    Left and right A pillar trim moldings
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Fill the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Recharge the A/C system.
  8.  
  9. Start the vehicle and verify proper system operations.
  10.  
  11. Road test the vehicle and check for any rattles, repair if necessary.
