Oil Pan

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter.
  4.  
  5. Support the powertrain assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    The negative battery cable
     
    The right inner splash shield
     
    The turbocharger-to-charge air cooler hose assembly, if equipped
     
    The oil cooler connector bolt, if equipped with a turbocharger. Do not disconnect the coolant lines from the oil cooler and reposition the cooler.
     
    The engine structural collar
     
    The lower torque strut
     
    The oil filter adapter
     
    The oil pan and gasket
     

  8.  
  9. Thoroughly clean all gasket mating surfaces.

To install:

  1. Apply silicone sealer to the oil pump-to-engine block parting line.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    The new gasket on the oil pan
     
    The oil pan and torque the bolts to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm)
     
    The oil filter and adapter and torque the screws to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm)

  5. If equipped with a turbocharger, replace the oil cooler seal. Lubricate the seal with and place the oil cooler-to-oil filter adapter in position making sure to align the notch on the tab. Install the oil cooler connector bolt and tighten to 41 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).
    WARNING
    Follow the proper tightening sequence for the structural collar or damage to the collar or oil pan may occur.

  7. Install the engine structural collar on models with an automatic transaxle as follows, refer to the illustration for bolt locations:
    1. Place the collar in position and hand tighten the collar to transaxle bolt.
    2.  
    3. Position the power steering hose support bracket and install the collar to oil pan bolt.
    4.  
    5. Place the bending strut in place and hand start the bolt.
    6.  
    7. Install the bolt through the strut and collar and hand tighten.
    8.  
    9. Place the power steering hose support bracket in position and install and hand tighten the remaining bolts.
    10.  
    11. Tighten the collar-to-transaxle bolts to 75 ft. lbs. (101 Nm).
    12.  
    13. Install the bolts through the strut and into the block.
    14.  
    15. Tighten the remaining bolts to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm).

  9. Install the engine structural collar on models with a manual transaxle as follows, refer to the illustration for bolt locations:
    1. Place the collar in position and hand tighten the collar to transaxle bolt.
    2.  
    3. Position the power steering hose support bracket and install the collar to oil pan bolt.
    4.  
    5. Position the clutch slave cylinder into position and hand start the bolts.
    6.  
    7. Tighten bolts (1) to 75 ft. lbs. (101 Nm).
    8.  
    9. Tighten bolts (2 and 5) to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm).
    10.  
    11. Tighten bolts (3 and 4) to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).

  11. Install or connect the following:

    The lower torque strut
     
    The turbocharger-to-charge air cooler hose assembly, if equipped
     
    The right inner splash shield
     
    The negative battery cable
     

  12.  
  13. Fill the engine with clean oil and a new filter.
  14.  
  15. Start the vehicle and check for leaks, repair if necessary.
  16.
