Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    The Negative battery cable
     
    The Timing belt
     
    The Camshaft sprockets
     
    The Rear timing belt cover
     
    The Water pump and discard the O-ring
     

  6.  

To install:

NOTE
Apply dielectric grease to the new O-ring before installation.

  1. Install or connect the following:
    WARNING
    Before proceeding, be sure the O-ring gasket is properly seated in the water pump groove before tightening the screws. An improperly installed O-ring could cause a coolant leak.


    NOTE
    Rotate the pump by hand to check for freedom of movement.



    New O-ring in the water pump groove
     



    The water pump and torque the bolts to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm)
     



    The rear timing belt cover
     
    The camshaft sprockets
     
    The timing belt
     
    The negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Fill the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Start the vehicle and check for leaks, repair if necessary.
  6.
