Wheel Speed Sensors

Removal & Installation



  1. Access and remove front brake rotor.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect vehicle wiring harness from wheel speed sensor connector.
  4.  
  5. Unclip wheel speed sensor connector from frame rail outer reinforcement, then open routing clip on reinforcement and remove cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove screw fastening wheel speed sensor routing bracket to strut assembly.

  8.  
  9. Open routing clip at knuckle and remove wheel speed sensor cable.
    WARNING
    Before removal, clean the area around sensor head to help prevent contaminants from entering bearing when sensor head is removed.

  10.  
  11. Remove screw fastening speed sensor head to hub and bearing.
  12.  
  13. Remove wheel speed sensor from hub and bearing.

To install:

  1. Apply bearing grease (supplied with part) to sensor head shaft and O-ring.
    WARNING
    Make sure that the sensor mounting surface on bearing is clean before sensor installation.

  3. Push sensor head into mounting hole in hub and bearing and align mounting screw hole.
  4.  
  5. Install NEW mounting screw. Tighten mounting screw to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Place wheel speed sensor cable grommet into routing clip at knuckle and close clip.
  8.  
  9. Attach wheel speed sensor routing bracket to strut assembly.
  10.  
  11. Tighten screw to 115 inch lbs. (13 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Clip wheel speed sensor connector and routing clip to frame rail outer reinforcement.
  14.  
  15. Connect vehicle wiring harness to wheel speed sensor connector.
  16.  
  17. Install brake rotor as well as all components necessary to access it.
  18.  
  19. Verify that wheel speed sensor cable is properly routed and not coming into contact with rotor or other moving parts.
  20.  
  21. Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation of the base brakes and ABS.
  22.  

  1. Access and remove rear hub and bearing from vehicle.
    WARNING
    Prior to removal, clean area around sensor head to help prevent contaminants from entering bearing when sensor head is removed.

  3. Remove screw fastening speed sensor head to hub and bearing.
  4.  
  5. Remove wheel speed sensor from hub and bearing.

  6.  

To install:

  1. Apply bearing grease (supplied with part) to sensor head shaft and O-ring.
    WARNING
    Make sure that sensor mounting surface on bearing is clean before sensor installation.

  3. Push sensor head into mounting hole in hub and bearing and align mounting screw hole.
  4.  
  5. Install NEW mounting screw. Tighten mounting screw to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install hub and bearing with wheel speed sensor as well as all components necessary to access it.
  8.  
  9. Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation of the base brakes and ABS.
