3.5L Engine




CAUTION
Hot, pressurized coolant can cause injury by scalding. Cooling system must be partially drained before removing the coolant temperature sensor.

  1. Drain cooling system below engine coolant temperature sensor level.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect negative cable from remote jumper terminal.
  4.  
  5. With the engine cold, disconnect coolant sensor electrical connector and remove the sensor.
  6.  

To Install:

  1. Install engine coolant temperature sensor. Tighten sensor to 7 Nm (60 inch lbs.).
  2.  
  3. Connect electrical connector to sensor.
  4.  
  5. Fill cooling system.
  6.

3.8L Engines



  1. Drain cooling system below engine coolant temperature sensor level.
  2.  
  3. Remove power steering reservoir and relocate. Do not disconnect hoses.
  4.  
  5. Remove ignition coil and bracket.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect coolant sensor electrical connector. Remove coolant sensor.
  8.  

To Install:

  1. Install engine coolant temperature sensor. Tighten sensor to 7 Nm (60 inch lbs.).
  2.  
  3. Connect electrical connector to sensor.
  4.  
  5. Install ignition coil bracket.
  6.  
  7. Install ignition coil.
  8.  
  9. Install power steering reservoir.
  10.  
  11. Fill cooling system.
  12.

  3. Remove power steering reservoir and position aside. Do NOT disconnect the power steering fluid hoses.
  4.  
  5. Remove ignition coil and bracket, as outlined in this section.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect coolant sensor electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove coolant sensor.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install engine coolant temperature sensor and tighten to 60 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect electrical connector to sensor.
  4.  
  5. Install ignition coil bracket.
  6.  
  7. Install ignition coil.
  8.  
  9. Install power steering reservoir.
  10.  
  11. Fill cooling system.
  12.
