Removal & Installation



Instrument Panel
  1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the center console closeout panel by removing the left and right attaching screws, then the left and right panels.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Remove the shift bezel.
     
    Remove the transmission range indicator surround bezel.
     
    Remove the two screws attaching the front floor console to the lower instrument panel.
     
    Open the cup holder and remove the two attaching screws on the bottom of the cup holder.
     
    Open the bin and remove the two attaching screws on the bottom of the bin.
     
    Remove the front floor console sidewall attaching screws, three per side.
     
    Raise the front floor console and disconnect the wiring harness.
     
    Remove the front floor console from the vehicle.

  7. Remove the floor console base assembly by removing the two screws attaching the L-brackets to the instrument panel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the nuts attaching the floor braces to the instrument panel.

  11. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Remove the two screws attaching the steering column opening cover to the instrument panel.
     
    Pull from bottom rearward to disengage the clips and remove the steering column opening cover.
     
    Remove the steering column opening cover from the vehicle.

  13. Remove the four inflatable knee blocker mounting screws.

  15. Remove two screws attaching instrument panel trim outlet plate.
  16.  
  17. Using a trim stick or equivalent, disengage the locking tabs attaching the instrument panel trim plate.
  18.  
  19. Disengage the parking brake handle from parking brake release bracket, leaving the rod engaged.

  21. Remove the instrument panel reinforcement.

  23. Disconnect the bulkhead wiring harness connectors.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the body control module wiring connectors.
  26.  
  27. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Remove the three screws fastening the lower shroud to the upper shroud and the steering column.
     
    Gently press inward at the seams between the shrouds to unlock tabs.
     
    Remove the upper, then the lower shroud.

  29. Disconnect the steering column wiring connectors.
  30.  
  31. Disconnect the steering column pinch bolt and retaining nuts.
  32.  
  33. Disconnect the brake light wiring connectors.
  34.  
  35. Remove the steering column retaining nuts.
  36.  
  37. Remove the shift interlock cable.
  38.  
  39. By disengaging the hidden clips attaching the trim panel to the A-pillar, remove both left and right side A-pillar trim
  40.  
  41. Remove and discard the instrument panel end caps.
  42.  
  43. Remove both of the front door sill scuff plates.
  44.  
  45. Remove both of the cowl side trim panels.
  46.  
  47. Disconnect the antenna lead connector.
  48.  
  49. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Push on the sides of the glove box bin and lower the door.
     
    Pivot the glove box downward and disengage the hinge hooks from the instrument panel.
     
    Remove the glove box from the vehicle.

  51. Disconnect the airbag module electrical connector.
  52.  
  53. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    The instrument panel top cover may be hard to unsnap from the instrument panel. Use care not to mar, scuff, or damage the instrument panel pad.



    Using a trim stick or equivalent, disengage the locking tabs that are attaching the top cover to the instrument panel.
     
    Pull the top cover upward to disengage the front clips, then pull rearward to remove.

  55. Remove the mounting screws attaching the right instrument panel side cowl bracket (roll down).

  57. Disconnect the HVAC electrical connectors.
  58.  
  59. Disconnect the three electrical connectors behind the cowl panel.
  60.  
  61. Disconnect the right side electrical connector from the A-pillar.
  62.  
  63. Remove the two screws attaching the instrument panel frame to the dash panel below the windshield opening.

  65. With the help of an assistant, remove the instrument panel from the vehicle. Lift the instrument panel off the HVAC to prevent damage to the sealing surface of the distribution duct.

To install:

  1. With the help of an assistant, place the instrument panel into vehicle, inserting the instrument panel locator pins into body. While installing the instrument panel, lift the instrument panel up to prevent binding or bending of the duct work. Set the instrument panel down on the HVAC housing to get the proper seal at the distribution duct, and start one bolt in the dash panel.

  3. Install the instrument panel side cowl bracket right and left side mounting screws.
  4.  
  5. Install the two screws attaching the instrument panel frame to the dash panel below the windshield opening.
  6.  
  7. Connect the right side electrical connector at the A-pillar.
  8.  
  9. Connect the three electrical connectors behind the cowl panel.
  10.  
  11. Connect the HVAC electrical connectors.
  12.  
  13. Install the top cover.
  14.  
  15. Install or connect the following:

    Connect the glove box lamp through the opening.
     
    Set the glove box into the opening and push into position.

  17. Connect the airbag module electrical connector.
  18.  
  19. Connect the antenna lead connector.
  20.  
  21. Install both cowl side trim panels.
  22.  
  23. Install both front door sill scuff plates.
    NOTE
    Technician must install new instrument panel end caps.

  25. Install both left and right side A-pillar trim.
  26.  
  27. Install the shift interlock cable.
  28.  
  29. Install the steering column retaining nuts.
  30.  
  31. Connect the brake light wiring connectors.
  32.  
  33. Install the instrument panel reinforcement.
  34.  
  35. Connect the steering column pinch bolt and the retaining nuts.
  36.  
  37. Connect the steering column wiring connectors.
  38.  
  39. Install or connect the following:

    Place the lower and upper shrouds around the steering column.
     
    Snap the shrouds together at the locking tab locations on both sides.
     
    Install the center mounting screw, securing the lower shroud to the column. Tighten the screw to 18 inch lbs. (2 Nm).
     
    Inspect the shroud mating surfaces for excessive gaps and adjust as necessary.

  41. Connect the body control module wiring connectors.
  42.  
  43. Connect the bulkhead wiring harness connectors.
  44.  
  45. Install the screws that attach the parking brake handle onto the parking brake release bracket.
  46.  
  47. Press on instrument panel trim outlet plate to engage clips.
  48.  
  49. Install the two screws that attach the instrument panel trim plate.
  50.  
  51. Install the four inflatable knee blocker mounting screws.
  52.  
  53. Install or connect the following:

    Place the steering column opening cover into position.
     
    Install the snap tab just left of the steering column. Engage the locator tab on the right. Starting from the upper right corner, engage the clip. At the lower right, squeeze the clip to the lower right panel. Engage the left clip.
     
    Install the two screws that attach the steering column opening cover to the instrument panel.

  55. Install the nuts attaching the floor braces to the instrument panel.
  56.  
  57. Install the two screws that attach the front floor console L-brackets to the instrument panel.
  58.  
  59. Install the front floor console assembly.
  60.  
  61. Install center console closeout panels by placing the left and right center console closeout panels into position and installing the attaching screws.
  62.  
  63. Connect battery negative cable.
  64.
