Shock Absorbers


Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheel

  5. Position jack stands under the forward end of the engine cradle to support and stabilizer the vehicle.
  7. Place a transmission jack under the center of the rear suspension crossmember on models not equipped with All Wheel Drive (AWD) or rear driveline module, if equipped with AWD.
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Two shock absorber upper bolts
    Lower shock absorber bolts
    Front and rear crossmember bolts

  11. Lower the jack slowly enough so to allow the top of the shock absorber to clear the body flange and remove the shock absorber by tipping it outwards and lifting the lower end out of the pocket in the spring link.
  13. Remove the coil spring and isolator lower end first, if necessary. Never lower the jack any more than necessary for removal and installation.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Coil spring isolator on top of the sprint, then the spring top end first. Match the lower end coil against the abutment in the spring link.
    Shock absorber by setting the lower end into the pocket in the spring link, then tipping the top inwards. Hand start the upper mounting bolts

  3. Raise the jack slowly guiding the spring and lower end of the shock absorber into position. Once the bolt holes are aligned, stop jacking. Install and hand tighten the bolts.
  5. Raise the jack until the two crossmember bolts can be installed and tighten to 120 ft. lbs. (163 Nm).
  7. Tighten the upper shock absorber bolts to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm) and remove the jack.
  9. Install the wheels, position the vehicle on an alignment rack and raise the vehicle enough to access the lower shock absorber bolts. Tighten the bolts to 75 ft. lbs. (102 Nm).
  11. Have the rear wheel toe set to specifications.
