CAUTION
Some vehicles are equipped with the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) or air bag system. The SIR system must be disabled before performing service on or around SIR system components, steering column, instrument panel components, wiring and sensors. Failure to follow safety and disabling procedures could result in accidental air bag deployment, possible personal injury and unnecessary SIR system repairs.

Buick Park Avenue 1996-1999

Oldsmobile 88 1992-1993

Oldsmobile Delta 88 1987-1988

Pontiac Bonneville 1987-1993

  1. If equipped with air bags, disable the SIR system.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the center trim panel by carefully prying it off.
  6.  
  7. Remove the control panel retaining screws/bolts.
  8.

  1. Pull the assembly out slightly in order to access the rear of the unit.
  2.

  1. Detach the electrical and vacuum connectors and the temperature cable from the rear of the control assembly.
  2.

  1. Remove the heater and A/C control assembly from the vehicle.
  2.  

To install:

  1. Connect the temperature cable to the control assembly.
  2.  
  3. Attach the electrical connectors and vacuum lines to the control assembly.
  4.  
  5. Place the assembly in position and secure with the retaining screws.
  6.  
  7. Install the center instrument panel trim.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. If equipped with air bags, enable the SIR system.
  12.  

Specific to:

Buick LeSabre 1994-1999

Buick Park Avenue 1996-1999

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument panel lower trim plates.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air vent deflectors.
  6.  
  7. Unfasten the instrument panel accessory trim plate screws and trim plate.
  8.  
  9. Unfasten the HVAC control assembly screws, then pull the control out enough to access the connectors.
  10.  
  11. Detach the electrical and vacuum connectors from the rear of the control assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the control assembly from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Attach the connectors to the rear of the control assembly, then position the assembly in the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the control retaining screws and tighten to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Position the instrument panel trim plate and secure with the retaining screws.
  6.  
  7. Install the air vent deflectors and lower trim plates.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable and check for proper HVAC control operation.
  10.  

Specific to:

Buick Park Avenue 1996-1999

Oldsmobile 88 1994-1999

Oldsmobile LSS 1996-1999

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument panel closet panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the HVAC control from the closet, detach the electrical and vacuum connectors, then remove the control from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Attach the electrical and vacuum connectors to the HVAC control.
  2.  
  3. Position the HVAC control to the closet and press the control it to engage the retainer clips.
  4.  
  5. Install the instrument panel closet panel.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable and check for proper HVAC control operation.
  8.  

Specific to:

Buick Park Avenue 1996-1999

Pontiac Bonneville 1994-1999

  1. If equipped with air bags, disable the SIR system.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the instrument panel trim plate by carefully prying it off.
  6.  
  7. Remove the control panel retaining screws/bolts.
  8.  
  9. Pull assembly out slightly in order to access the rear of the unit.
  10.  
  11. Detach the electrical and vacuum connectors from the rear of the control assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the heater and A/C control assembly from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Attach the electrical connectors and vacuum lines to the control assembly.
  2.  
  3. Place the assembly in position and secure with the retaining screws. Tighten the screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the instrument panel trim plate.
  6.  
  7. If equipped with air bags, enable the SIR system.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable and check for proper HVAC control operation.
