Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Buick LeSabre 1986-1999

Buick Park Avenue 1996-1999

Pontiac Bonneville 1987-1999

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  4.  


WARNING
Never hammer on the brake drum, as this could damage the brake drum.

  1. Remove the brake drum from the vehicle. It may be necessary to remove the ABS sensor wiring connector, if equipped.
  2.  

The bolts that attach the hub and bearing assembly also support the brake assembly. When removing these bolts, support the brake components with a suitable piece of wire. Do NOT let the brake line or ABS electrical wire support the brake assembly.

  1. Unfasten the four retaining bolts, then remove the hub and bearing assembly from the axle.
  2.

To install:

  1. Install the hub and bearing assembly to the axle and secure with the four retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the brake drum. If necessary, attach the ABS sensor wiring connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Carefully lower the vehicle. Tighten the wheel lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (136 Nm).

Buick Park Avenue 1998-1999

Oldsmobile Regency 1998

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    WARNING
    The hub assembly mounting bolts also secure the backing plate assembly. Once the bolts are removed, the backing plate must be supported with wire or other means. Do not allow the brake line or ABS electrical wire to support the brake assembly.



    Rear wheel
     
    Brake drum
     
    Anti-Lock Brake Systems (ABS) sensor wire, if equipped
     



    4 hub/bearing assembly bolts and the hub assembly
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Hub/bearing assembly onto the rear knuckle. Torque the bolts to 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm).
     
    ABS sensor connector, if equipped
     
    Brake drum
     
    Rear wheel. Torque the nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (140 Nm).
     

  2.  
  3. Road test for proper operation.
