Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    NOTE
    If working near and/or around the SRS system and components, be sure to disable the SRS system. After disabling the system wait three minutes or more before servicing the vehicle. Disconnect the air bag module connector.


    NOTE
    Before disconnecting the fuel line, release the fuel pressure from the fuel line.

  3. Start the engine.
  4.  
  5. Using the CONSULT-III diagnostic tool, or equivalent, perform the fuel pressure release procedure.
  6.  
  7. Turn the engine off.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fuel pump fuse.

  11. Start the engine.
  12.  
  13. After the engine stalls, crank it a few times to release all fuel pressure.
  14.  
  15. Position the ignition switch in the OFF position.
  16.  
  17. Reinstall the fuel pump fuse.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  20.  
  21. Drain the fuel tank to an acceptable level.
  22.  
  23. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  26.  
  27. Remove the filler protector.
  28.  
  29. Disconnect the filler tubes, fuel supply tube and fuel return tube.
  30.  
  31. Remove the fuel tank protector.
    NOTE
    Properly support the fuel tank assembly.

  32.  
  33. Remove the six fuel tank mounting bolts, while supporting the fuel tank.
  34.  
  35. Remove the fuel tank mounting bracket.
  36.  
  37. Carefully remove the fuel tank from the vehicle.

To install:


NOTE
Be sure to use new fasteners, as required.

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Be sure to ensure that fuel hoses are not kinked or bent.
  4.  
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  6.  
  7. Using the CONSULT-III diagnostic tool, or equivalent, perform the SRS self diagnostic test and any reconnect/relearn procedures, as required.
