  2.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.
  5. Open and support the hood.
  6.
  7. Remove the wiring connector from the back of the lamp. Be careful to release the locking tab completely before removal.
  8.
  9. Grasp the base of the bulb holder, twist it counterclockwise (as viewed from the engine compartment), then carefully remove the bulb holder and bulb from the housing.
    CAUTION
If replacing a recently burnt out bulb, be careful because the bulb could still be very hot. Use either clean gloves or a clean rag to remove the bulb.

  10.
  11. Hold the bulb at the base, not at the glass cover portion and unclip the harness from the bulb. Remove the bulb.
  12.

Because the halogen bulb is sensitive to oils on your fingers, NEVER touch the glass portion of a halogen bulb.

To install:

NOTE
Be sure to use new fasteners, as required.

  1. Position the new bulb in the holder and make sure the clip engages firmly.
  2.

Hold the new bulb with a clean cloth or a piece of paper. DO NOT touch or grasp the bulb with your fingers. The oils from your skin will produce a hot spot on the glass envelope, shortening bulb life. If the bulb is touched accidentally, clean it with alcohol and a clean rag before installation. But remember it is simply safer to avoid handling the bulb by its glass.

  1. Install the holder and bulb into the housing. Note that the holder has guides which must align with the housing. When the holder is correctly seated, turn the holder clockwise to lock in place.
  2.
  3. Connect the wiring harness, then connect the negative battery cable.
  4.
  5. Turn on the headlights and check the function of the new bulb on both high and low beam.
  6.
  7. Using the CONSULT-III diagnostic tool, or equivalent, perform the SRS self diagnostic test and any reconnect/relearn procedures, as required.

  2.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.
  5. Remove the headlight bezel (trim).
  6.
  7. The sealed beam is held in place by a retainer and either 2 or 4 small screws. Identify these screws before applying any tools.
  8.

Do not confuse the small retaining screws with the larger aiming screws! There will be two aiming screws or adjustors for each lamp. (One adjustor controls the up/down motion and the other controls the left/right motion.) Identify the adjustors and avoid them during removal. If they are not disturbed, the new headlamp should have the same aim as the old one.

  1. Using a small flat tipped tool (preferably magnetic) and a pair of taper-nose pliers if necessary, remove the small screws in the headlamp retainer. Do not drop the screws.
  2.
  3. Remove the retainer and the headlamp may be gently pulled free from its mounts. Detach the connector (if the connector is tight, wiggle it) from the back of the sealed beam unit and remove the unit from the vehicle.

  2.
  3. Connect the negative battery cable, then turn on the headlights and check the new lamp for proper function. Remember to check both high and low beams before the final assembly.
  4.
  5. Install the retainer and the small screws that hold it.
  6.
  7. Reinstall the headlight bezel.
  8.
  9. Using the CONSULT-III diagnostic tool, or equivalent, perform the SRS self diagnostic test and any reconnect/relearn procedures, as required.
