Removal & Installation

Specific to:

Nissan Pickup 1996-1997

To avoid confusion, always replace the spark plug wires one at a time.

When installing new wires, replace them one at a time to avoid mix-ups. Start by replacing the longest one first. Install the boot firmly over the spark plug. Route the wire over the same path as the original. Insert the nipple firmly into the tower on the cap or the coil.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    NOTE
If working near and/or around the SRS system and components, be sure to disable the SRS system. After disabling the system wait three minutes or more before servicing the vehicle. Disconnect the air bag module connector.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    NOTE
Always keep track of the spark plug cable routing and plug wire bracket locations.

  4.
  5. Number the spark wires so that you won't cross them when they are reconnected.
  6.
  7. Remove the wire from the end of the spark plug by grasping the rubber boot. If the boot sticks to the plug, remove it by twisting and pulling at the same time. DO NOT pull wire itself or you will damage the core.
  8.
