The Knock (KS) sensor is used to detect engine vibrations caused by pre-ignition or detonation and provides information to the PCM, which then retards the timing to eliminate detonation.

Removal & Installation

NOTE
Be sure that you have the anti-theft codes for the audio system and navigation system, if equipped. Record the audio presets.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. Wait 3 minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing any service.
  6.  
  7. Remove the intake manifold.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fuel rails and the injector base.

  11. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  12.  
  13. Remove the component from its mounting.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the sensor to 23 ft. lbs. (31 Nm).
  4.
