Removal & Installation



J35A9 Engine

Specific to:

Honda Pilot 2006-2008


NOTE
Be sure that you have the anti-theft codes for the audio system and navigation system, if equipped. Record the audio presets.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. Wait 3 minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing any service.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the positive battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  10.  
  11. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the splash shield.

  15. Remove the drive belt.
  16.  
  17. Hold the pulley with the holder handle and holder attachment. Remove the bolt. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Lubricate the bolt, washer and crankshaft with clean engine oil.

  5. Install the pulley and tighten the bolt. Do not use an impact wrench.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the bolt to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm). Mark the head of the bolt and the pulley and tighten the bolt an additional 60 degrees.
    NOTE
    The mark on the bolt head lines up with the mark on the crankshaft pulley.


    NOTE
    The power window reset procedure must be performed when disconnecting the battery, removing the No. 1 (20 amp) fuse in the passenger-s under dash fuse/relay box, disconnecting the 18P connector from the power window control unit, removing the window regulator, glass or glass run channel and disconnecting the driver-s door wire harness.

  9. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  10.  
  11. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  12.  
  13. Move the driver-s power window all the way down by holding the driver-s power window switch firmly down to the second detent. When the window reaches the bottom, hold the driver-s power window switch in the AUTO DOWN position for two seconds.
  14.  
  15. Move the driver-s power window all the way up without stopping by holding the driver-s power window switch firmly up to the second detent. When the window reaches the top, hold the driver-s power window switch in the AUTO UP position for two seconds.
    NOTE
    If the power window does not work in AUTO, repeat the procedure.

  4.

  7. Disconnect the positive battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  10.  
  11. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the splash shield.

  15. Remove the drive belt.

  5. Install the pulley and tighten the bolt. Do not use an impact wrench.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the bolt to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm). Mark the head of the bolt and the pulley and tighten the bolt an additional 60 degrees.

  15. Move the driver-s power window all the way up without stopping by holding the driver-s power window switch firmly up to the second detent. When the window reaches the top, hold the driver-s power window switch in the AUTO UP position for two seconds.
    NOTE
    If the power window does not work in AUTO, repeat the procedure.
