NOTE
Be sure that you have the anti-theft codes for the audio system and navigation system, if equipped. Record the audio presets.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. Wait 3 minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing any service.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the positive battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Remove the intake manifold.

  11. Remove the valve covers.
    CAUTION
    Adjust the valves only when the cylinder head temperature is less than 100° F.

  13. Position the No. 1 piston at TDC. Align the pointer on the front upper cover with the No. 1 piston TDC mark on the front camshaft pulley.

  15. Select the correct feeler gauge for the valves you are going to check. Specification should be 0.008-0.009 in. for intake valves and 0.011-0.013 in. for exhaust valves.

  17. Insert the gauge between the adjusting screw and the end of the valve stem on No. 1 cylinder and slide it back and forth, you should feel a slight drag.
  18.  
  19. If too much or too little drag is felt, loosen the locknut and turn the adjusting screw, as required. Tighten the locknut to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm). and recheck the clearance. Correct, as required.

  21. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise. Align the pointer on the front upper cover with the No. 4 piston TDC mark on the front camshaft pulley. Check and adjust the valve clearance on No. 4 cylinder.

  23. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise. Align the pointer on the front upper cover with the No. 2 piston TDC mark on the front camshaft pulley. Check and adjust the valve clearance on No. 2 cylinder.

  25. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise. Align the pointer on the front upper cover with the No. 5 piston TDC mark on the front camshaft pulley. Check and adjust the valve clearance on No. 5 cylinder.

  27. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise. Align the pointer on the front upper cover with the No. 3 piston TDC mark on the front camshaft pulley. Check and adjust the valve clearance on No. 3 cylinder.

  29. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise. Align the pointer on the front upper cover with the No. 6 piston TDC mark on the front camshaft pulley. Check and adjust the valve clearance on No. 6 cylinder.

  31. Install the valve covers.

  33. Install the intake manifold.
    NOTE
    The power window reset procedure must be performed when disconnecting the battery, removing the No. 1 (20 amp) fuse in the passenger-s under dash fuse/relay box, disconnecting the 18P connector from the power window control unit, removing the window regulator, glass or glass run channel and disconnecting the driver-s door wire harness.

  35. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  36.  
  37. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

  39. Move the driver-s power window all the way down by holding the driver-s power window switch firmly down to the second detent. When the window reaches the bottom, hold the driver-s power window switch in the AUTO DOWN position for two seconds.

  41. Move the driver-s power window all the way up without stopping by holding the driver-s power window switch firmly up to the second detent. When the window reaches the top, hold the driver-s power window switch in the AUTO UP position for two seconds.
    NOTE
    If the power window does not work in AUTO, repeat the procedure.

  11. Position the No. 1 piston at TDC. Align the pointer on the front upper cover with the No. 1 piston TDC mark on the front camshaft pulley.

  17. If too much or too little drag is felt, loosen the locknut and turn the adjusting screw, as required. Tighten the locknut to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm). for the front cylinder head and 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm). for the rear cylinder head and recheck the clearance. Correct, as required.

  19. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise. Align the pointer on the front upper cover with the No. 4 piston TDC mark on the front camshaft pulley. Check and adjust the valve clearance on No. 4 cylinder.

  21. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise. Align the pointer on the front upper cover with the No. 2 piston TDC mark on the front camshaft pulley. Check and adjust the valve clearance on No. 2 cylinder.

  23. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise. Align the pointer on the front upper cover with the No. 5 piston TDC mark on the front camshaft pulley. Check and adjust the valve clearance on No. 5 cylinder.

  25. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise. Align the pointer on the front upper cover with the No. 3 piston TDC mark on the front camshaft pulley. Check and adjust the valve clearance on No. 3 cylinder.

  27. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise. Align the pointer on the front upper cover with the No. 6 piston TDC mark on the front camshaft pulley. Check and adjust the valve clearance on No. 6 cylinder.

  29. Install the valve covers.
    NOTE

    NOTE
    If the power window does not work in AUTO, repeat the procedure.
