CAUTION
Be sure to review the SRS component locations before removing this component.


NOTE
Be sure that you have the anti-theft codes for the audio system and navigation system, if equipped. Record the audio presets.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. Wait 3 minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing any service.
  6.  
  7. Properly discharge the air conditioning system.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect and plug the air conditioning hoses at the evaporator.
  10.  
  11. Remove the glove box.
  12.  
  13. Cut the plastic cross brace in the glove box opening and discard it.

  15. Remove the bolts, screws and glove box frame.
  16.  
  17. Remove the wire harness connectors. Disconnect the temperature sensor connector.
  18.  
  19. Remove the screws, mounting nuts, bracket and the evaporator.

  21. Remove the lid. Remove the filter. Remove the sensor from the fins.

  23. Remove the screws and carefully separate the upper housing from the lower housing. Remove the core.

  25. If necessary remove the expansion valve.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Be sure to reinstall the temperature sensor bulb and clip in their original location.
  4.  
  5. Be sure to use new O-rings, as required. Coat the O-rings with clean refrigerant oil prior to installation.
    WARNING
    If replacing the evaporator with a new one be sure to fill the unit with the proper grade and type refrigerant oil. Specification is 40ml.

  7. Properly recharge the air conditioning system.
    NOTE
    The power window reset procedure must be performed when disconnecting the battery, removing the No. 1 (20 amp) fuse in the passenger-s under dash fuse/relay box, disconnecting the 18P connector from the power window control unit, removing the window regulator, glass or glass run channel and disconnecting the driver-s door wire harness.

  9. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  10.  
  11. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  12.  
  13. Move the driver-s power window all the way down by holding the driver-s power window switch firmly down to the second detent. When the window reaches the bottom, hold the driver-s power window switch in the AUTO DOWN position for two seconds.

  15. Move the driver-s power window all the way up without stopping by holding the driver-s power window switch firmly up to the second detent. When the window reaches the top, hold the driver-s power window switch in the AUTO UP position for two seconds.
    NOTE
    If the power window does not work in AUTO, repeat the procedure.
