Diagnosis & Testing
Motor

Specific to:

Honda Pilot 2006-2008


CAUTION
The vehicle headliner will first have to be removed from the vehicle. Be sure to review the SRS component locations before removing the headliner.


NOTE
The moonroof can still be operated for about ten minutes after the ignition switch is turned from II to I or O as long as none of the doors are open.


NOTE
Be sure that you have the anti-theft codes for the audio system and navigation system, if equipped. Record the audio presets.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. Wait 3 minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing any service.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the positive battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Remove the headliner.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector from the motor.

  13. Check the motor by connecting power and ground according to the illustration. If the motor does not run, replace it.
    NOTE
    The power window reset procedure must be performed when disconnecting the battery, removing the No. 1 (20 amp) fuse in the passenger-s under dash fuse/relay box, disconnecting the 18P connector from the power window control unit, removing the window regulator, glass or glass run channel and disconnecting the driver-s door wire harness.

  15. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  16.  
  17. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  18.  
  19. Move the driver-s power window all the way down by holding the driver-s power window switch firmly down to the second detent. When the window reaches the bottom, hold the driver-s power window switch in the AUTO DOWN position for two seconds.
  20.  
  21. Move the driver-s power window all the way up without stopping by holding the driver-s power window switch firmly up to the second detent. When the window reaches the top, hold the driver-s power window switch in the AUTO UP position for two seconds.
    NOTE
    If the power window does not work in AUTO, repeat the procedure.

  11. Check for continuity between the terminals in each switch position as indicated in the illustration.
  12.  
  13. If the switch does not perform as indicated, replace it, or the bulb.
    NOTE
    The power window reset procedure must be performed when disconnecting the battery, removing the No. 1 (20 amp) fuse in the passenger-s under dash fuse/relay box, disconnecting the 18P connector from the power window control unit, removing the window regulator, glass or glass run channel and disconnecting the driver-s door wire harness.

Removal & Installation

  9. Remove the A-pillar trim, both sides. Remove the B-pillar trim, both sides. Remove the B-pillar lower trim and upper trim, both sides. Remove the D-pillar trim, both sides. Remove the C-pillar trim, both sides. Remove the rear side upper trim panel, both sides.
  10.  
  11. Remove the sun visors.
  12.  
  13. Remove the roof console.
  14.  
  15. Remove the grab handles.
  16.  
  17. Remove the interior light assemblies.
  18.  
  19. If equipped with rear entertainment system, remove the display cover.
  20.  
  21. Pull the center second row seat belt cover down to detach the clips. Remove it. Remove the seat belt through the hole in the cover.
  22.  
  23. Pull the center third row seat belt cover down to detach the clips. Remove it.
  24.  
  25. Detach the hooks and pin. Remove the seat belt guide and remove the center third row seat belt through the hole in the guide.
  26.  
  27. Remove the roof portion of the tailgate weatherstrip. Pull the rear edge of the headliner down to detach the clips and release the Velcro fasteners. Remove the remaining door opening trim from each door opening.

  29. Lower the headliner. Remove the headliner through the tailgate opening.
  30.  
  31. Disconnect the motor electrical connector.
  32.  
  33. Remove the retaining bolts. Remove the motor from its mounting.
  34.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Be sure to replace defective retaining clips, as required.
    NOTE
    The power window reset procedure must be performed when disconnecting the battery, removing the No. 1 (20 amp) fuse in the passenger-s under dash fuse/relay box, disconnecting the 18P connector from the power window control unit, removing the window regulator, glass or glass run channel and disconnecting the driver-s door wire harness.

  5. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

  7. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  8.  
  9. Move the driver-s power window all the way down by holding the driver-s power window switch firmly down to the second detent. When the window reaches the bottom, hold the driver-s power window switch in the AUTO DOWN position for two seconds.

  11. Carefully push out the switch from behind the dashboard lower cover. Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch.
