The fuel filter is part of the fuel tank unit and is serviced along with that component.


NOTE
Be sure that you have the anti-theft codes for the audio system and navigation system, if equipped. Record the audio presets.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. Wait 3 minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing any service.
  6.  
  7. Properly relieve the fuel system.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fuel tank unit.

  11. Remove the fuel filter set.

To install:

  1. Be sure to use new O-rings. Coat new O-rings with clean engine oil.

  3. Temporarily attach a new base gasket to the fuel tank unit. Insert the fuel tank unit partially into the fuel tank.
    WARNING
    Be careful not to damage the new base gasket. Be careful not to bend the fuel gauge sending unit. Do not coat the new base gasket with engine oil.

  5. Transfer the new base gasket from the fuel tank unit to the fuel tank.
  6.  
  7. Align the marks on the fuel tank and the fuel tank unit. Insert the fuel tank unit into the fuel tank until the fuel tank unit rests on top of the base gasket.
    WARNING
    To avoid a fuel leak, check the base gasket, visually or by hand, to make sure it is not pinched.

  9. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
    NOTE
    The power window reset procedure must be performed when disconnecting the battery, removing the No. 1 (20 amp) fuse in the passenger-s under dash fuse/relay box, disconnecting the 18P connector from the power window control unit, removing the window regulator, glass or glass run channel and disconnecting the driver-s door wire harness.

  11. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  12.  
  13. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  14.  
  15. Move the driver-s power window all the way down by holding the driver-s power window switch firmly down to the second detent. When the window reaches the bottom, hold the driver-s power window switch in the AUTO DOWN position for two seconds.

  17. Move the driver-s power window all the way up without stopping by holding the driver-s power window switch firmly up to the second detent. When the window reaches the top, hold the driver-s power window switch in the AUTO UP position for two seconds.
    NOTE
    If the power window does not work in AUTO, repeat the procedure.
