CAUTION
Be sure to review the SRS component locations before removing the instrument panel, which must be removed to remove the heater unit.


NOTE
Be sure that you have the anti-theft codes for the audio system and navigation system, if equipped. Record the audio presets.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. Wait 3 minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing any service.
  6.  
  7. From under the hood, open the cable clamp and disconnect the heater valve cable from the valve arm. Turn the heater valve arm to the fully open position. See illustration.

  9. Drain the engine coolant. Be sure to properly dispose of used coolant.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect and plug the heater hoes at the heater core.
  12.  
  13. Remove the mounting nut from the heater unit.
    CAUTION
    Be careful not to damage or bend the fuel lines, brake lines or related components.

  15. Remove the instrument panel.

  17. Remove the evaporator.

  19. Remove the heater unit retaining bolts. Remove the heater unit from the vehicle.

  21. Remove the screws and clamp, and carefully pull out the heater core. Do not pull on the core as damage to the inlet and outlet tubes may result.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. From under the dash disconnect the valve cable from the cable clamp. Disconnect the cable from the air mix control linkage.
  4.  
  5. Set the temperature dial to MAX COOL, with the ignition switch ON (II).
  6.  
  7. Attach the heater valve cable to the front air mix control linkage. Hold the end of the valve cable housing against the stop, then snap the valve cable housing into the cable clamp.

  9. From under the hood, turn the valve arm to the fully closed position. See illustration.

  11. Attach the cable to the valve arm. Gently pull the valve cable housing to take up any slack.
  12.  
  13. Install the valve cable housing into the cable clamp.
    WARNING
    Be sure to fill the cooling system with the proper grade and type engine coolant.


    NOTE
    The power window reset procedure must be performed when disconnecting the battery, removing the No. 1 (20 amp) fuse in the passenger-s under dash fuse/relay box, disconnecting the 18P connector from the power window control unit, removing the window regulator, glass or glass run channel and disconnecting the driver-s door wire harness.

  15. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  16.  
  17. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  18.  
  19. Move the driver-s power window all the way down by holding the driver-s power window switch firmly down to the second detent. When the window reaches the bottom, hold the driver-s power window switch in the AUTO DOWN position for two seconds.

  21. Move the driver-s power window all the way up without stopping by holding the driver-s power window switch firmly up to the second detent. When the window reaches the top, hold the driver-s power window switch in the AUTO UP position for two seconds.
    NOTE
    If the power window does not work in AUTO, repeat the procedure.
