Removal & Installation



Lower Arm A

Specific to:

Honda Pilot 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Make sure that the front tire and wheel assemblies are in the straight ahead position.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies.
  8.  
  9. Remove the lower arm -A- mounting bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the lower arm -A- self locking nut. Discard the nut.
  12.  
  13. Remove the lower arm -A- from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Be sure to use new mounting bolts and nuts, as required.
    NOTE
    First install all suspension components and lightly tighten the bolts and nuts, then raise the suspension to load it with the vehicles weight before fully tightening the nuts and bolts to specification.

  5. Check and adjust the wheel alignment, as required.
  6.  

Lower Arm B

Specific to:

Honda Pilot 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Make sure that the front tire and wheel assemblies are in the straight ahead position.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies.
  8.  
  9. Position a jack at the connecting point of the lower arm and the knuckle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the flange nut, while holding the joint pin with a hex wrench. Disconnect the stabilizer link from the lower arm.
  12.  
  13. Remove the three flange bolts and the wheel sensor from the lower arm. Do not disconnect the wheel speed sensor connector.
  14.  
  15. Remove the flange bolt that connects the lower arm and the knuckle.
  16.  
  17. Gradually lower the floor jack.
  18.  
  19. Remove the spring, upper spring seat and lower spring seat. Remove the flange bolt and bumper stop.

  21. Remove the self locking nut, adjusting cam plate and adjusting bolt. Remove the lower arm.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

  3. Be sure to use new mounting bolts and nuts, as required.
    NOTE
    First install all suspension components and lightly tighten the bolts and nuts, then raise the suspension to load it with the vehicles weight before fully tightening the nuts and bolts to specification.

  5. Tighten the lower control arm adjusting bolt and new self locking nut to 61 ft. lbs. (83 Nm). Tighten the lower control arm bolts to 54. ft. lbs. (73 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Check and adjust the wheel alignment, as required.
  8.  

Trailing Arm

Specific to:

Honda Pilot 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Make sure that the front tire and wheel assemblies are in the straight ahead position.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies.
  8.  
  9. Remove the parking brake shoes. Remove the parking brake cable.
  10.  
  11. Remove the parking brake cable from the trailing arm.
  12.  
  13. Remove the brake hose bracket from the trailing arm.
  14.  
  15. Position a floor jack at the connecting point of the lower arm -B- and the knuckle.
  16.  
  17. Remove the flange bolts and the trailing arm mounting bolts from the trailing arm.
  18.  
  19. Remove the trailing arm from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Be sure to use new mounting bolts and nuts, as required.
    NOTE
    First install all suspension components and lightly tighten the bolts and nuts, then raise the suspension to load it with the vehicles weight before fully tightening the nuts and bolts to specification.

  5. Tighten the flange bolts to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).Tighten the mounting bolts to 75.9 ft. lbs. (102.9 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Check and adjust the wheel alignment, as required.
  8.  

Upper Control Arm

Specific to:

Honda Pilot 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Make sure that the front tire and wheel assemblies are in the straight ahead position.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies.
  8.  
  9. Position a jack at the connecting point of the lower arm and the knuckle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the lock pin from the upper arm ball joint. Remove the castle nut.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the upper arm ball joint from the knuckle using the ball joint removal tool.
  14.  
  15. Remove the upper arm retaining bolt. Remove the upper arm from its mounting.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Be sure to use new mounting bolts and nuts, as required.
    NOTE
    First install all suspension components and lightly tighten the bolts and nuts, then raise the suspension to load it with the vehicles weight before fully tightening the nuts and bolts to specification.

  5. Tighten the upper arm bolt to 69 ft. lbs. (94 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Check and adjust the wheel alignment, as required.
