Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Honda Pilot 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Make sure that the front tire and wheel assemblies are in the straight ahead position.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies.
  8.  
  9. Position a jack at the connecting point of the lower arm and the knuckle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the upper shock retaining bolt.
  12.  
  13. Remove the lower shock retaining nut.
  14.  
  15. Compress the shock. Remove it from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Be sure to use new nuts, washers and bolts, as required.
    NOTE
    First install all suspension components and lightly tighten the bolts and nuts, then raise the suspension to load it with the vehicles weight before fully tightening the nuts and bolts to specification.

  5. Check and adjust the wheel alignment, as required.
  6.  

Testing

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Make sure that the front tire and wheel assemblies are in the straight ahead position.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies.
  8.  
  9. Remove the shock absorber from the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Compress the shock by hand and check for smooth operation through a full stroke, both compression and extension.
  12.  
  13. The shock should extend in a smooth continuous motion when the compression is released.
  14.  
  15. Check for leaks, abnormal noises or binding during the compression test.
  16.  
  17. As required, replace the shock.
