Park/Lock Control Cable

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the console cover, hush panel and lower steering column as necessary for access to the Park lock cable. Refer to the "Console and Steering Column" procedures in Section 6 .

  5. Put the shifter lever in Park position.
  6.  
  7. Put the ignition switch in the Run position.
  8.  
  9. Remove the cable from the inhibitor.
  10.  

To release the cable from the inhibitor, insert a screwdriver blade into the inhibitor slot and depress the cable latch and pull the cable from the inhibitor.

  1. Remove the cable from the park lock lever pin.
  2.  
  3. Remove the cable from the shifter base and remove the cable.
  4.  

To install:

  1. Install the shift lever in the Park position and snap the cable connector lock button to the up position.
  2.  
  3. Snap the cable connector to the base and turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
  4.  
  5. Snap the cable into the inhibitor housing and turn the ignition key to the LOCK position.
  6.  
  7. Snap the cable to the park lock lever pin. Push the cable connector nose forward toward the connector to remove the slack.
  8.  
  9. With no load applied to the nose, snap the cable connector lock button down.
  10.  
  11. Place the shift lever in the Park position and turn the ignition key to the Lock position.
  12.  
  13. The shifter lever should not be able to move to another position and the ignition key should be removable from the key lock.
  14.  
  15. Turn the key to the Run position and put the shift lever in Neutral, ignition key should not be removable from the lock.
