CAUTION
The EPA warns that prolonged contact with used engine oil may cause a number of skin disorders, including cancer! You should make every effort to minimize your exposure to used engine oil. Protective gloves should be worn when changing the oil. Wash your hands and any other exposed skin areas as soon as possible after exposure to used engine oil. Soap and water, or waterless hand cleaner should be used.

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Mark the engine compartment lid hinges for proper reinstallation. Remove the engine compartment lid and side panels with an assistant.
  4.  
  5. Remove the trim panel at the sail panel below the battery side panel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the serpentine belt.
  8.  
  9. Raise the vehicle and support with jackstands.
  10.  
  11. Remove the right rear wheel assembly and inner splash shield.
  12.  
  13. Remove the starter motor and let hang.
  14.  
  15. Remove the crankshaft pulley and hub.
  16.  
  17. Lower vehicle and support with jackstands.
  18.  
  19. Install the engine support brace part No. J28467 or equivalent.
  20.  
  21. Raise the vehicle and support with jackstands.
  22.  
  23. It may be necessary to remove the alternator lower bracket.
  24.  
  25. Remove the front engine mounts.
  26.  
  27. Using a floor jack, raise the engine.
  28.  
  29. Remove the engine mount mounting bracket-to-cylinder blockbolts. Remove the bracket and mount as an assembly.
  30.  
  31. Remove the oil pan-to-front cover bolts.
  32.  
  33. Remove the front cover-to-block screws.
  34.  
  35. Pull the cover slightly forward, just enough to allow cutting of the oil pan front seal flush with the block on both sides.
  36.  
  37. Remove the front cover and the attached portion of the pan seal.
  38.  

To install:

  1. Clean the gasket surfaces on the cover, cylinder block and oil pan thoroughly.
  2.  
  3. Cut the tabs from the new oil pan front gasket.
  4.  
  5. Install the seal on the front cover, pressing the tips into the holes provided using the Front Cover Seal Installer No. J34995 or equivalent.
  6.  
  7. Coat the new gasket with RTV sealer and position it on the front cover.
  8.  
  9. Apply a 10mm wide by 5mm thick bead of silicone sealer to the joint formed at the oil pan and block.
  10.  
  11. Align the front cover seal with a centering tool No. J28467 and install the front cover. Torque the screws evenly to 90 inch. lb. (10 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the hub and torque the hub bolt to 160 ft. lbs. (217 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the front engine mount and remove the engine support brace J28467.
  16.  
  17. Install the starter, inner splash shield and right rear wheel. Torque the lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (136 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20.  
  21. Install the serpentine belt and adjust to the specifications in the Cylinder Head installation procedures.
  22.  
  23. Install the trim panel at sail below the battery side panel, engine compartment lid with as assistant and the negative (-) battery cable.
  24.  
  25. Start the engine and check for oil leaks.
  26.  

Coat the pulley-to-hub bolts with a locking sealant.
