REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



With Air Conditioning
  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant from the radiator. Under the hood, disconnect and plug the heater hoses at the heater.
  4.  


CAUTION
When draining engine coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted to ethylene glycol antifreeze and could drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or is several years old.

  1. Remove the speaker grille and the speaker.
  2.  
  3. Remove the heater core cover, retainers and the heater core.
  4.  

To install:

  1. Position the heater core into the heater module. Install the retainer and cover.
  2.  
  3. Reconnect the heater inlet and outlet hoses. Refill the engine cooling system. Start the engine and check for coolant leaks.

Without Air Conditioning
  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the following wire connections:
  4.  
    1. Heater relay.
    2.  
    3. Heater blower resistor.
    4.  
    5. Heater blower switch.
    6.  
    7. Heater ground connection.
    8.  
    9. Forward courtesy lamp socket.
    10.  

  5. Remove the windshield washer fluid container.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the heater core inlet and outlet hoses.
  8.  


CAUTION

  1. Remove the heater core grommets.
  2.  
  3. Remove the heater case cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the heater core retainer and remove the heater core.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Position the heater core and seals into the heater case. Install the retainer and cover assembly. Tighten the cover attaching screws.
  2.  
  3. Connect the heater wiring to the heater case cover. (heater relay, resistor, blower switch and ground)
  4.  
  5. Install the heater inlet and outlet hoses. Refill the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Reconnect the negative (-) battery cable and start the engine to check for coolant leaks.
