ADJUSTMENT

Adjustment of the parking brake is necessary anytime the rear brake cables have been disconnected or if the hydraulic system operates with good reserve, but the parking brake hand lever travel is more than 9 ratchet clicks.

  1. Place the parking brake hand lever in the fully released position.
  2.
  3. Raise the rear wheels off the floor and support it safely with jackstands.
  4.
  5. Apply lubricant to the groove in the equalizer nut.
  6.
  7. Hold the brake cable stud from turning and tighten the equalizer nut until cable slack is removed.
  8.

Make sure the caliper levers are against the stops on the caliper housing after tightening the equalizer nut. If the levers are off the stops, loosen the cable until the levers do return to the stops.

  1. Operate the parking brake lever several times to check the adjustment. If the parking brake shoes and cable are properly adjusted, the parking brake handle will move five to eight notches when a force is applied perpendicularly at the mid-point of the handle grip.
  2.

The levers must be on the caliper stops after completion of adjustment. If necessary, back off the parking brake adjuster to keep the levers on the stops.
