Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air cleaner component as needed for access.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the input/turbine speed sensor connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove the input/turbine speed sensor.
  8.  

<To install:>

  1. Apply ATF to a new O-ring and install it on a new input/turbine speed sensor.
  2.  
  3. Install the input/turbine speed sensor. Tighten to 70-95 inch lbs. (8-10 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the input/turbine speed sensor connector.
  6.  
  7. Install the air cleaner component.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.

Testing



Specific to:

Mazda Protege 1998-2003

Mazda Protege5 2002-2003

  1. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the input/turbine speed sensor.
    1. Resistance should be 250-600 ohms with an ATF temperature up to 320°F (160°C).
    2.  
    3. If not as specified, replace the input/turbine speed sensor.
