Removal & Installation



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine oil dipstick.
  4.  
  5. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine and transaxle splash shields.
    CAUTION
    The EPA warns that prolonged contact with used engine oil may cause a number of skin disorders, including cancer! You should make every effort to minimize your exposure to used engine oil. Protective gloves should be worn when changing the oil. Wash your hands and any other exposed skin areas as soon as possible after exposure to used engine oil. Soap and water, or waterless hand cleaner should be used.

  9. Drain the engine oil. When all the oil has been drained, install the drain plug and tighten it to 22-29 ft. lbs. (29-39 Nm).

  11. On 1999-00 vehicles, unclip the heated oxygen sensor wiring harness from the transverse member.
  12.  
  13. Place an underbody type screw-jack or equivalent under the crankshaft pulley. Cover the end of the jack with rags to prevent damage to the crankshaft pulley. Take up just enough of the engine's weight to allow the engine mounts to be disconnected.

  15. Remove the front (left) and rear (right) engine mount through bolts.
  16.  
  17. Remove the two rear A/C refrigerant/heater pipe hold down bracket bolts.
  18.  
  19. Remove the four transverse member bolts and remove the transverse member.
  20.  
  21. On 1999-00 vehicles, disconnect the heated oxygen sensor electrical connector.
  22.  
  23. Remove the exhaust inlet pipe.
  24.  
  25. Remove the front (left) and rear (right) transaxle-to-engine braces. Remove the engine-to-transaxle separator plate.
  26.  
  27. On 1999-00 vehicles, remove the two bolts from the exhaust pipe bracket and remove the bracket.
  28.  
  29. Remove the eighteen oil pan bolts, in the reverse order of the tightening sequence. </
