CAUTION
Some models covered by this manual may be equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column, and instrument panel, disable the SRS.

  1. Position the vehicle with the front wheels in a straight ahead position.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the positive battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Wait at least ten minutes for the air bag back-up power supply to drain before continuing.
  8.  
  9. Remove the driver-s side lower instrument panel cover. On 1993-94 vehicles, remove the cover screw, then pull out on the cover to release the clips. On 1995 vehicles, remove the five cover screws, then pull out on the cover to release the clips.
  10.  
  11. Remove the four driver-s side lower instrument panel reinforcement bolts and remove the lower reinforcement.
  12.  
  13. Remove the ignition switch electrical connector bolt and disconnect the connector.
  14.  
  15. Remove the two ignition switch screws.
  16.  
  17. Remove the ignition switch from the steering column.

To install:

  1. The installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the lower instrument panel reinforcement bolts to 29-39 inch lbs. (3.2-4.4 Nm)

CAUTION
Some models covered by this manual may be equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column, and instrument panel, disable the SRS.

  1. Position the vehicle with the front wheels in a straight ahead position.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the positive battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Wait at least ten minutes for the air bag back-up power supply to drain before continuing.
  8.  
  9. Remove the two steering column shroud screws on 1996-98 vehicles. On 1999-00 vehicles, remove the four steering column shroud screws.
  10.  
  11. Remove both the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
  12.  
  13. Remove the two ignition switch screws and pull the switch from the ignition switch housing.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
  16.  
  17. Remove the ignition switch from the vehicle.
  18.  
  19. The installation is the reverse of removal.
