Stabilizer Bar (Sway Bar) & Links

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Using a wrench to secure the stabilizer bar link studs, remove the stabilizer bar-to-stabilizer bar link nuts. Disconnect the stabilizer bar from the stabilizer link.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the both the left and right upper stabilizer bar bracket-to-rear axle housing bolts, but do not remove them.
  6.  
  7. Remove both the left and right lower stabilizer bar bracket-to-rear axle housing bolts.
  8.  
  9. Slide the stabilizer bar down until the mounting brackets clear the loosened upper mounting bolts and remove the stabilizer bar from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Position the stabilizer bar and mounting brackets under the loosened upper mounting bracket bolts. Tighten the upper stabilizer bar bracket-to-rear axle housing bolts to 23-31 ft. lbs. (31-42 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the lower stabilizer bar bracket-to-rear axle housing bolts and tighten them to 23-31 ft. lbs. (31-42 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the stabilizer bar ends to the stabilizer bar links. Install the stabilizer bar-to-stabilizer bar link nuts and tighten them to 29-33 ft. lbs. (39-45 Nm) on 1993-98 vehicles. On 1999-00 vehicles, tighten them to 30-35 ft. lbs. (41-47 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle.
