Removal & Installation



Front Wheel

Specific to:

Lexus RX300 1999-2003

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheel and tire assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front fender splash shield.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the speed sensor connector.

  9. Remove the bolt and the clamp from the shock absorber assy.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolt and the clamp from the body.
  12.  
  13. Remove the bolt and the front speed sensor.
    WARNING
    Do not allow any foreign matter to come in contact with the tip of the sensor.

To install:

  1. Install the front speed sensor with the bolt and tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the front speed sensor with the bolt and body clamp. Tighten to 48 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
    NOTE
    Do not twist the sensor wire when installing the sensor.

  5. Install the front speed sensor with the bolt and shock absorber clamp. Tighten to 21 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Attach the speed sensor connector.
  8.  
  9. Install the front fender splash shield.
  10.  
  11. Install the front wheel and tire assembly and tighten the lug nuts finger-tight.
  12.  
  13. Lower the vehicle, then final tighten the lug nuts to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm).

Rear Wheel

Specific to:

Lexus RX300 1999-2003

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear seat, scuff plate, and rear seat side garnish.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the speed sensor connector and pull out the sensor wire harness with the grommet.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 clamp bolts holding the sensor wire harness to the body and shock absorber.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolt, O-ring (2WD) and speed sensor from the axle carrier.
    WARNING
    Do not allow any foreign matter to come in contact with the tip of the sensor.

To install:

Installation is the reverse of removal. Torque the harness clamp bolts to 48 inch lbs. (5 Nm). Torque the speed sensor bolt to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm) for 2WD; 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm) for 4WD.
